WV State Senator Doug Facemier – 02.17.12

The Legislature is quickly reaching the final days of the 80th regular session.
Wednesday evening marked the final day legislators could submit bill drafts to the Office of Legislative Services and cross-over day in the Legislature follows shortly behind. Because cross-over day will finalize the time frame for bill introductions, both the House and Senate sessions have become saturated with last minute bills, hopeful to become law.
With early passage of the OPEB bill and the cracker plant bill, we can anticipate smooth sailing for the remainder of session.
Since the session’s January 11th start date, Senator’s have diligently worked to introduce 621 bills, 54 of which were introduced so far this week.
Additionally, 58 bills were passed through the Senate chamber and then onto the House or relating committees. Seven of these bills, including the OPEB and cracker bill, have fully completed legislation in both chambers.
The five other completed pieces of legislation include: Senate Bill 165, Senate Bill 209, Senate Bill 210, House Bill 4107, and House Bill 4291.
Senate Bill 165 involves creating criminal offenses for sexual contact on incarcerated persons by correctional employees. This bill was already approved by the Governor and will be effective ninety days from passage.
Senate Bill 209 will update terms in the Personal Income Tax Act. This bill completed legislation and is awaiting the Governor’s signature.
Senate Bill 210 involves updating terms in Corporation Net Income Tax Act. House Bill 4107 relates to volunteer firefighter training and also awaits the Governor’s signature. House Bill 4291 involves the county law libraries established by the Supreme Court of Appeals.
These last few remaining weeks will be extremely fast past and action packed. I encourage my constituents to contact me with any questions or concerns.
