Rood Paris McCartney
Age 94, of Pine Creek Road, Grantsville, WV, died Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at his home.
He was born at Index, WV, the son of Otis and Rebecca Goff McCartney.
He worked as a coal miner at Cabin Creek, WV, and a mail carrier in Calhoun County. In 1955 he moved to East Liverpool, Ohio where he worked and retired from American Vetrified Products. He was a World War II Veteran, serving in Italy for two years. He received a Bronze Star, Purple Heart, and Good Conduct Medal.
Survivors include his wife of 73 years, Hester Boggs McCartney; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Linda McCartney of Arnoldsburg, Richard and Connie McCartney of Grantsville; 3 grandchildren, Beth Stull (Johnny), Scott McCartney (Carla), Robin Gordon (Danny); 5 great-grandchildren, Samuel, Danielle, Levi, Daerra, and Cheyenne. One sister, Freda Bellomy of St. Cloud, Fla.; special nephew, Charles “Buck” Bell (Wilma.)
He is preceded in death by seven brothers and two sisters.
Calling hours were held on Saturday, June 30, 2012 at the Stump Funeral Home in Grantsville from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
Funeral services were held Sunday, July 01, 2012 at 5:00 PM at the funeral home.
Burial was in the St. Paul Cemetery on Pine Creek.
