More than 600 National Guard Members Assisting

The storm recovery effort in West Virginia continues to move forward much in part to the effort of more than 600 members of the West Virginia National Guard.

The National Guard transformed the flight line of the 130th Airlift Wing at Yeager Airport into a staging area and support center for 20 members of FEMA and their support teams, 50 Army National Guardsmen and 70 130th Wing personnel.

Out of the staging area, the Guard has used 325 vehicles to distribute approximately 98 generators, 427,000 gallons of water, 396,000 meals, 200 oxygen cylinders and a variety of medical supplies and infant toddler kits to emergency operations centers across the state to go to helping those affected most by the June 29, 2012 storm.

In addition to delivering supplies, Health and Wellness teams are going door-to-door in communities talking with residents and identifying what they may need.
