GSC Students Recognized at Honors Convocation

Thirty students received Academic Achievement Awards at the 2012 Glenville State College Honors Convocation held on Thursday, April 26, 2012 in the Mollohan Campus Community Center Ballroom.

The awards recognized students who have demonstrated exceptional academic accomplishments, made contributions to the Glenville State College Community, and have distinguished themselves among their peers, the faculty, and staff.

The GSC Department of Business presented Academic Achievement Awards to six seniors:

•  Justin A. Brown of Glenville (Gilmer County), West Virginia

•  Brian K. Griffith of Glenville (Gilmer County), West Virginia

•  Kayla B. Miller-Roop of Mount Zion (Calhoun County) West Virginia

•  Rachel R. Ramezan of Sand Fork (Gilmer County), West Virginia

•  Leandra J. Sears of Duck (Clay County), West Virginia

•  Trent J. Walker of Dawson (Greenbrier County), West Virginia


The Glenville State College Fine Arts Department gave Academic Achievement Awards to seniors:

•  Jessica D. Patterson of New Enterprise, Pennsylvania

•  Jared A. Young of Summersville (Nicholas County), West Virginia.


The GSC Department of Land Resources honored four seniors with Academic Awards:

•  Heather Ashley Denise Dove of Oceana (Wyoming County), West Virginia

•  Maranda D. Frame of Sutton (Braxton County), West Virginia

•  James R. Howes of French Creek (Upshur County) West Virginia

•  Chad M. Stout of Weston (Lewis County), West Virginia.


Two students received Academic Achievement Awards from the GSC Department of Language and Literature:

•  Senior Gregory W. Arnott of St. Marys (Pleasants County), West Virginia

•  Junior Casey D. Pritt of Glenville (Gilmer County), West Virginia


The GSC Department of Science and Mathematics handed out Academic Achievement Awards to three seniors:

•  Alyssa Korrine Fehrenbach of Elkins (Randolph County), West Virginia

•  Mackenzie M. Langman of Glenville, (Gilmer County), West Virginia

•  Jamie N. Sponaugle of Cedarville (Gilmer County), West Virginia.


Academic Achievement Awards were presented to four seniors by the GSC Department of Social Science:

•  Opal D. Fox of Cowen (Webster County), West Virginia

•  Gina M. Hamilton of Elkins (Randolph County), West Virginia

•  Dustin D. Roy of Lost Creek (Harrison County), West Virginia

•  Jamie L. Schindel of Troy, Ohio


The GSC Athletic Department also honored two senior student athletes:

•  Olivia F. Ferrell of Glenville (Gilmer County), West Virginia, a member of the Pioneer Women’s Golf team

•  Pioneer football player Matthew D.J. Porter of Martinsburg (Berkeley County), West Virginia


In addition, Glenville State College Student Affairs presented three awards:

•  The Outstanding Student Organization Leader Award recognizing a student who has made extraordinary contributions to the quality of campus life at Glenville State College was presented to senior Cody R. Sheldon of Keyser (Mineral County), West Virginia. He is the President of the GSC Science Fiction and Fantasy Guild.

•  The Outstanding Student Organization Award recognizing a student organization that has made significant contributions to the quality of student life at Glenville State College was presented to the Science Fiction and Fantasy Guild.

•  The Outstanding Student Organization Advisor Award was presented to Science Fiction and Fantasy Guild Faculty Advisors Dr. Jonathan Minton and Melissa Gish.


“This event provides for an opportunity to recognize the accomplishments of our students in specific fields of study as well as their contributions to the co-curricular programs of the college.  It is also an opportunity to acknowledge the centrality of Glenville State College’s holistic approach to educating the next generation for positions of leadership,” said Dr. John Peek, GSC Provost and Senior Vice President.
