POSITION:     Strength and Conditioning Coach - Gilmer County High School


JOB DESCRIPTION:


FOR THE POSITION OF:     Strength and Conditioning Coach - Gilmer County High School


REPORTS TO:     Principal/Athletic Director/Head Coach


JOB GOAL:     To assist with participating student to achieve a high level of skill, an appreciation for the values of discipline and an increased level of self-esteem.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

Coaches’ Responsibilities:

1.  cooperates with building principal and athletic director,

2.  develops rapport with coaching staff within the school,

3.  develops positive relationship with participants, student body, faculty, parents and community, game officials, news media, and opponents,

4.  employs appropriate conduct during games and practices

5.  attends league, conference and WVSSAC meetings,

6.  participates in activities that foster professional growth and development,

7.  motivates staff and players toward desired goals,

8.  commands respect by example in appearance, manners, behavior and language.

9.  develops high caliber and quality instruction,

10.  teaches fundamental skills,

11.  handles athletic injuries,

12.  cares for equipment,

13.  supervises participants and disciplines team appropriately,

14.  designs quality organization of practice sessions,

15 designs pre-season planning,

16.  manages budget,

17.  follows purchasing procedures,

18.  initiates game organization skills,

19.  follows league, conference, and WVSSAC policies,

20 devotes time and energy to coaching duties, and

21.  follows end of season procedures.


Coaches’ Performance Criteria:

1. organizes and administers the overall strength and conditioning program at Gilmer County High School,

2. ensures equipment is maintained and in proper working condition,

3. establishes and maintains a daily participation log,

4. advertise schedules of operation to all students/athletes,

5. coordinates with coaches to promote student participation,

6. operates program regardless of the number of students for the scheduled days and time,

7. provides monthly reports to athletic director related to participation, successes, and suggestions

8. assists in aspects of recruiting and promotion of the weight program

9. provides proper supervision of all participants during all activities

10. performs other duties as assigned by the athletic director or principal,


EMPLOYMENT TERM    July 01, 2012 – June 30, 2013


QUALIFICATIONS:

*Holds a WV Teaching Certificate or Temporary Authorization for Coaching Certificate

*3-5 years of demonstrated strength training experience

*Certification in CPR or First Aid Desirable

*Possess the knowledge, skills and ability to successfully carry out responsibilities of the position.

SALARY: $4500
