GSC Student Art Show Winners Announced

Winners have been announced for the fifth annual Glenville State College Juried Student Art Show.

All works in the exhibit were created by full-time GSC students who completed their work during their college careers.

The juror of the show was Zachary Orcutt, a Professor of Art at West Virginia University Parkersburg. He selected 47 pieces to be in the show from 67 entries.

“This year’s student show was a great success. I hope everyone gets the chance to see the wonderful work being done by GSC students,“ said GSC Professor of Art Liza Brenner, who also planned the event.

Harmonia Rosales received the Provost Award (Best in Show) for her oil painting, ‘Empty Every Night.‘ The $100 cash prize awarded to her was donated by GSC Provost Dr. John Peek. Rosales is a senior English major from Champaign, Illinois.

Brittany McGuire received the Linda K. Abraham Memorial Award for her photo, ‘Spiral.‘ She received $100 that was donated by the Linda Abraham Foundation. McGuire is a junior Music Education major from Beckley, West Virginia in Raleigh County.

Elora Shock won first place with her watercolor, ‘Invictus.‘ She received $80 that was donated by the GSC Bluegrass Band. Shock is a senior General Studies major from Rosedale, West Virginia in Braxton County.

Holly Wright won second place for her sculpture ‘Good Enough For You.‘ She received a $60 prize that was donated by the GSC Fine Arts Department. Wright is a senior Education major from Parkersburg, West Virginia in Wood County.

Jillian Malone won third place for her sculpture ‘Moon in the Tree..‘ She earned $40 which was donated by the GSC Fine Arts Department. Malone is a sophomore undeclared major from Anchorage, Alaska.

Joseph Overbaugh won Honorable Mention for his mixed media piece ‘The Great Escape.‘ A $20 prize was awarded to him thanks to a donation by the GSC Bluegrass Band. Overbaugh is a junior Education major from Mount Zion, West Virginia in Calhoun County.

The show took place from March 12, 2012 until April 25, 2012.

It was open to the public daily Monday through Friday from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
