Governor Tomblin Issues Statement on the Passing of Coach Bill Stewart

Governor Earl Ray Tomblin today issued the following statement after learning former West Virginia University football Coach Bill Stewart, 59, died of an apparent heart attack.
“Coach Stewart brought a new found pride to the Mountaineer faithful as he led the football team in both competition and character,” Governor Tomblin said. “Joanne and I are deeply saddened by the sudden loss of Coach Stewart and offer our sympathies to his family. Together, we ask that Mountaineers everywhere keep the Stewart family in your thoughts and prayers during this sad time.”
Bill Stewart joined the Mountaineers in 2000, and served as interim coach before serving as head coach during the 2008, 2009 and 2010 seasons.
