Regional and State Employment and Unemployment (Monthly)

In April, 37 states and the District of Columbia reported over-the-month unemployment rate decreases, 5 had increases and 8 had no change.

Nonfarm payroll employment increased in 32 states and the district and decreased in 18 states.


Extended Mass Layoffs (Quarterly)

In the first quarter of 2012, 1,077 extended mass layoff events involved 182,101 worker separations; both measures were down from first quarter 2011.


Consumer Price Index

On a seasonally adjusted basis, the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers was unchanged in April after increasing 0.3% in March.

The index for all items less food and energy rose 0.2% in April, the same increase as in March.


Real Earnings

Real average hourly earnings was unchanged in April, seasonally adjusted.

Both the average hourly earnings and the CPI-U were flat.

Real average weekly earnings was also unchanged over the month.
