• 1898 Governor Atkinson appointed officers to recruit a West Virginia volunteer regiment to serve in the Spanish-American War.
• 1953 WETZ - AM radio went on the air, the first radio station in New Martinsville, Wetzel County.
• 1992 The United States Army Corps of Engineers began construction of 85 acres of wetlands at Greenbottom in Cabell County to replace the wetlands destroyed for the new Gallipolis Locks and Dam Replacement Project.
