A host of dignitaries will be in attendance at the inaugural Friends of WVFFA banquet to honor the achievements of West Virginia FFA members over the past year.

Part of National FFA Week festivities being held across the country, the event will be held Wednesday, February 22, 2012, at the Harrison County 4-H Center just off Route 19 south of Clarksburg. Doors open at 5 p.m. and dinner starts at 6:00 PM.

Among the student honorees are:

  The Tyler County land judging and homesite evaluation team that is one of only four in the past 60 years to win double national titles;
  West Virginia FFA President Wesley Davis, who won both a national FFA essay contest and a national FFA Agriculture Entrepreneurship Award for his Mason County egg enterprise; and
  Sarah Miller of Mineral County, who was one of four national finalists in the FFA Environmental Science and Natural Resources Proficiency award program.

“These are some of the finest young people in our state, and I am thrilled that they will be getting this recognition,” said 11-term West Virginia Commissioner of Agriculture Gus R. Douglass. “I credit my experiences in FFA for much of the success I’ve enjoyed in my career, and I wish all the state’s FFA students the greatest success in whatever they endeavor to do in their lives.”

Besides Commissioner Douglass, other dignitaries expected to attend are State Treasurer John Perdue, National FFA Student Vice President Alicia Hodnik of Wisconsin and Carhartt Senior Vice President for Human Resources Jennifer Piskopink.

The event is sponsored by clothing manufacturer Carhartt and will be catered by Jaws BBQ of Buckhannon.

The program will feature a musical performance and a fund-raising auction.
