Drug ‘Take Back’ Day - Today – 04.28.12

Today is national Prescription Drug “Take-Back” Day and U.S. District Attorney Booth Goodwin expects increased participation.
Goodwin says this is the fourth event in recent years and the numbers have always increased.
“We took in 24-hundred pounds in September 2010, 32-hundred pounds in April 2011 and 37-hundred pounds in October 2011,“ Goodwin said.
Drop-off points across the state will be open from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM Today.
The federal Drug Enforcement Administration operates the program along with local enforcement.
Goodwin says unused pills fall into the wrong hands.
“Two-thirds of new or occasional abusers of pain pills got them from a friend or a relative for free or took them without asking,“ Goodwin said. “So it’s critical to get prescription drugs that aren’t needed out of the medicine cabinet and properly disposed of.“
