WV State Superintendent of Schools Reaches Out to Students
The West Virginia Superintendent of Schools is collaborating with public school students in an effort to better engage West Virginia youth in the learning process.
Students with various backgrounds and academic goals will share their views on the state’s education system during a three-day meeting with county superintendents June 25-27 at the Charleston Marriott. The annual Superintendent’s Summer Institute, “Serving Our Children Well: Focusing on the Person in Personalized Learning,” will include college-bound students, career technical education students, at-risk students, rural students, urban students and others. The small group session will include interviews of high students to examine perspectives on assets and obstacles for personalized learning.
“Research tells us when we give students a voice, they are more interested in school and more likely to learn,” said state Superintendent Jorea Marple. “Fostering student engagement is one of the most powerful tools schools have to increase achievement and personalize learning.”
Personalized learning is defined as a means of “creating an inspiring learning environment that places student learning and well-being at its core; ensuring that each student acquires the knowledge, skills and dispositions for college, career and citizenship success; and recognizing, developing and elevating the individual talents and aspirations of all students.”
“One of the best ways we can empower youth in West Virginia schools is to provide a broad curriculum so that our children want to come to school to discover what they are good at, not be discouraged because the limited curriculum only tells them what they can’t do well,” Marple said. “When we “Empowering youth to express their opinions and influence their educational experiences helps them have a stake in their academic outcome.”
This is just so much more disgusting fluff from these people. They are good using ‘smoke and mirrors’, with no real improvement for our children.
They name their affair “Serving Our Children Well”. What ‘bs’ that is.
We have laws in place limiting the time children have to ride a bus…..and they do not even follow the states’ rules. The would be the FIRST place the state DOE could be “Serving Our Children Well”. But no, they disregard the law because it doesn’t serve their purpose.
They didn’t, and haven’t followed their own rules with the overthrow and operation of the Gilmer School system. They THEY decide where our children will attend school.
Finally, they ‘ice the cake’ with busing 160 of our children out of county to a school that has only 80 students in the school.
These people spend so much time looking at themselves in a mirror, they are used to seeing the whole world around them backwards. They haven’t a clue this is totally backwards.
Backwards? Plain stupid? Self serving? You decide.

Mrs. Marple, how about talking to the adults in charge before you speak with the children? You have ignored every attempt at communication on the subject of the Gilmer County takeover and the intercounty school. Your Superintendent did not even submit the funding plan for Gilmer County as it was presented in the CEFP. Now we are expected to pay an absurd price for land, provide utilities and more than half the children to create yet another new school in Lewis County.

The ones at the State Board of Education in Charleston, WV know what is going on here in this county. The good, the bad and the ugly. As far as our school system, there is NOTHING good about it. We are in worse shape and condition then when we were “taken over by the elites and State BOE”. We are giving our students along with a brand new school to another county, but we get to pay for it. Thanks for nothing “elites”. Wonder if these people ordered their degrees from Adison to? It sure is not showing any good judgement or common sense. I don’t have a college degree but I have better sense than they are showing. The good thing is people are more aware and can now spread the good news that not all Gilmer County people are stupid and going to stand for more of their dirty deeds. We can do something about it come this Nov. I’m voting against every one of them. The bad thing is Gilmer County has been made a laughing stock for the state and beyond because of the uppers stupidity both in this county and at Charleston. The ugly is, the story going on with the lesbian acts and coverups has made national news and what they don’t tell you is there is some at the High School that thinks this is all OK and taught as such. One of them is the Principal that is over our students. Her daughters commit lesbian acts, drink, drugs and abnormal sexual acts, but she says this is all “NORMAL”. She is the person who needs removed ASAP before something really bad happens due to her “guidance”. I hope the ones responsible for bringing Gilmer County to the headlines every where are proud of their accomplishments. Personally, I am ashamed of you all. The “elite” of this county need to step forward and admit their wrong doings and get this mess cleaned up and get Gilmer County school system back where it belongs in Gilmer County.
