Once again the power company tells us at midnight we will have power. Once again no power. They have been telling us this everyday since the storm passed. Can’t the power company just tell us they have no idea when our power will be restored? I have seen my neighbors drive right by without stopping to see if my family of 4 could use anything.
Spending the last 10 days in my backyard I remember when I was visiting Florida when 3 hurricanes came through.I remember the choppers assesing damage, the red cross driving up and down the roads checking on people. I remember the aid that was DELIVERED within 24 hours.
I have no vehicle, I can’t get to the firehouse so I guess we go without any assistance what so ever. Its funny the county called me 5 times this month regarding my dog tax but cant seem to find my road when it comes to seeing if everyone is OK nor call us after such a storm. The county hasn’t tried to contact us in anyway. There has yet to be any county official or state agency nor any military on our road. I guess we are ON OUR OWN IN GILMER and I hope the county and state can learn how to coordinate a little better for those who don’t have transportation and for those who do not eat at Audries ( the family that laughed at us because we had no generator like them and drove off)
In closing I ask that the citizens of Gilmer pick up the phone and call someone you know without a car and see if they need anything

Hey Neighbor, can’t tell if we’ve met but doesn’t matter.  We were lucky and got power today (the 12th day without) so know what you are talking about.  Call us at 462-8118 or email at “njhurley@hughes.net” and we’ll be glad to help in any way we can. My trucks running and have four wheel drive by necessity and God’s grace. Hang in there and don’t worry about owing a favor because we all need to help each other when we can. Please call.
