Insurance Companies to Give 16,000 in State Rebates

The Gilmer Free Press

Health insurance companies will give rebates totaling $2.7 million to more than 16,000 customers in West Virginia this year.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services says most of the rebates will go people who buy their own health insurance.

People in small group plans will share $400,000 in rebates.

The rebates are for billing customers more than allowed under the new federal health care law.

Companies cannot spend more than 20% of revenues on administrative costs.

Senator Jay Rockefeller (D-WV) inserted that provision into the law.

He said through a spokeswoman that some insurers have raised prices to boost profits instead of paying for medical care.

Its just use of the individuals “own money”, making the payer think that the politicians are really looking out for them.

Nothing more than the old “shell game” you used to see being played in western movies 50 years ago.
