Gasoline Lines Fade, But ICE Still in Demand

The Gilmer Free Press

Update: In Gilmer County you can pick up ice at all the fire stations. Also Foodland, Rich’s, and Mountaineer Mart are storing ice for the Gilmer County Office of Emergency Services and ice can be picked up at these locations.

Long gas lines have faded in area as service stations and convenience stores regain power.

But ice remains in demand.

West Virginia Oil Marketers and Groceries Association president Jan Vineyard says some stores still do not have power. Generators are being used in many places.

But Vineyard says the association’s members are in much better shape than they were and gasoline is no longer a critical situation.

Many service stations and convenience stores could not operate pumps after last Friday’s storm because they did not have electricity.

Motorists flocked to other businesses that did have power, creating long lines at the pumps.

Vineyard says demand for ice remains strong.
