GSC to Induct Five at Athletic Hall of Fame Banquet and Induction Ceremony - 05.19.12
On Saturday, May 19, 2012, Glenville State College will induct four alumni and one coach into the Curtis Elam Athletic Hall of Fame, which was established in 2001 through the generosity of the late Curtis Elam, a 1949 graduate.
This year’s inductees will be:

• Coach/Athletic Director Leland Byrd
• Steve Taylor ’60
• Sandra Elmore ’73
• Don Bullett ’82
The banquet and induction ceremony will begin at 6:00 PM in the ballroom of the Alan B. Mollohan Campus Community Center.
A meet and greet social time for banquet attendees will be held in the pre-function area of the Mollohan Center from 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM that evening.

GSC Student Honored by NWVACS
Glenville State College junior Logan Ramsey was recognized as an outstanding junior chemistry major by the Northern West Virginia Section of the American Chemical Society (NWVACS).
Ramsey received his award at the NWVACS annual awards banquet on April 25, 2012 at Murielle’s Restaurant in Fairmont, West Virginia.

Attending the banquet from Glenville State College were:
(L-R) Dr. Kevin L. Evans, Logan Ramsey, Robert DeWees, Joe Overbaugh, and Dr. David O’Dell
Students from Davis & Elkins College, Fairmont State University, Glenville State College, West Virginia University, and West Virginia Wesleyan College were recognized.
Award winners from each school were presented with a copy of the Merck Index and a year’s subscription to the Journal of Chemical Education.
Ramsey is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education with certifications in chemistry & physics (9-adult) and math (9-adult). He is from Bickmore, West Virginia in Clay County.
“The Glenville State Chemistry Department is one of the best chemistry departments in the country. Without the help of Doctors O’Dell and Evans, I wouldn’t be as prepared as I am for whatever plans my future holds,“ said Ramsey.

GSC Professor of Chemistry Dr. Kevin Evans, GSC Associate Professor of Chemistry Dr. David O’Dell, and GSC students Robert DeWees and Joe Overbaugh also represented Glenville State College at the banquet.

He is a leader in extra-curricular activities such as the Student Members of the American Chemical Society and seeks out opportunities to further his knowledge while promoting GSC’s science programs in the community,“ said O’Dell

ROANOKE: Stonewall Resort to Host Dance Weekend
Following up on previously successful ballroom and Latin dance weekends, Stonewall Resort in Roanoke, WV, will welcome WV Dance Inc. back to the resort at the end of March.
The resort will host the dance weekend from Friday, March 30, to Sunday, April 01, 2012.
The weekend will include lessons in East Coast Swing and all different forms of Latin and ballroom dances.
There is no dress code for the weekend, but guests are encouraged to wear shoes with either a leather or suede sole to facilitate ease of movement.
The weekend package costs $285 per couple or $221.50 for singles, plus tax and resort fee, and includes all dance instruction, overnight lodging on Friday and Saturday nights and breakfast on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

‘Bizarre Foods’ to Air West Virginia Episode February 27, 2012
At 9:00 PM Monday, February 27, 2012, “Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern” will broadcast an episode filmed in West Virginia.
Zimmern, star of the popular Travel Channel TV show, visited several places in the state, including the RoadKill Cook-off in Marlinton and Fish Hawk Acres farm market in Rock Cave.
He also went whitewater rafting with Adventures on the Gorge, hunted in Jackson and Fayette counties and visited with folk dancers in Putnam County.
The Pocahontas County Chamber of Commerce sponsors the RoadKill Cook-off as part of its annual Autumn Harvest Festival. Zimmern was a judge at the 2011 event, held in September.
The episode features footage of the contest and the winning recipe, Smeared Hog with Groundhog Gravy, submitted by sisters Rachel Dickenson of Dunmore and Naomi Roberts of St. Albans.
Zimmern speaks highly of his time in the Mountain State.
In a January interview with the entertainment website, “The Morton Report,” he named West Virginia as one of his favorite places to visit, citing its scenic beauty and abundance of outdoor recreational opportunities.

FIRST ANNUAL FRIENDS OF WVFFA BANQUET TO HONOR STATE STUDENTS
A host of dignitaries will be in attendance at the inaugural Friends of WVFFA banquet to honor the achievements of West Virginia FFA members over the past year.
Part of National FFA Week festivities being held across the country, the event will be held Wednesday, February 22, 2012, at the Harrison County 4-H Center just off Route 19 south of Clarksburg. Doors open at 5 p.m. and dinner starts at 6:00 PM.
Among the student honorees are:
The Tyler County land judging and homesite evaluation team that is one of only four in the past 60 years to win double national titles;
West Virginia FFA President Wesley Davis, who won both a national FFA essay contest and a national FFA Agriculture Entrepreneurship Award for his Mason County egg enterprise; and
Sarah Miller of Mineral County, who was one of four national finalists in the FFA Environmental Science and Natural Resources Proficiency award program.
“These are some of the finest young people in our state, and I am thrilled that they will be getting this recognition,” said 11-term West Virginia Commissioner of Agriculture Gus R. Douglass. “I credit my experiences in FFA for much of the success I’ve enjoyed in my career, and I wish all the state’s FFA students the greatest success in whatever they endeavor to do in their lives.”
Besides Commissioner Douglass, other dignitaries expected to attend are State Treasurer John Perdue, National FFA Student Vice President Alicia Hodnik of Wisconsin and Carhartt Senior Vice President for Human Resources Jennifer Piskopink.
The event is sponsored by clothing manufacturer Carhartt and will be catered by Jaws BBQ of Buckhannon.
The program will feature a musical performance and a fund-raising auction.

Mardi Gras Event Set at Stonewall
The United Way of Gilmer, Lewis and Upshur counties will host a Mardi Gras-themed elimination dinner at the Stonewall Resort Lodge on Friday, February 17, 2012.
The social will begin at 6:30 PM, dinner will be served at 7:00 PM and the drawings will begin at 8:00 PM.
The top prize will be $1,000.
