Charity Basketball Game to Benefit United Way
The staff of St. Joseph’s Hospital and Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital will take to the courts April 30 as they face each other in a basketball game benefiting the United Way of Gilmer, Lewis, and Upshur counties.
Staff from each hospital are training for the first “Thunder Cup” game between the two organizations. St. Joseph’s Hospital CEO Sue Johnson-Phillippe and Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital CEO Avah Stalnaker will participate in a special on-court challenge during halftime. Special activities for children will be included.
The game will be held at Buckhannon-Upshur High School at 6:00 PM and is open to the public. Advance tickets are $4 for adults and $2 for children under 12.
Tickets at the door will be $5 for adults and $3 for children under 12.
All proceeds will benefit the United Way.
SJMH Chief Operating Officer Kevin Stalnaker, a longtime United Way supporter, is managing the team at SJMH. Team members include Maria Potter, Kathy Baile, Rhonda Brown, Rick Thomason, John Pope, Tom Law, Sean Hamner, Angie Lafferty, Dr. Shafic Sraj, Matt DeGarmo, Kevin Stalnaker, Tonya Stewart, Kay Beane, Jesse Swiger, Avah Stalnaker, Dr. Peter Edgerton, Mark Harris, Missy Barrett, Jackie Hall and Amy Burchett.

WVIAC Week 18 Women’s Basketball Notes
WVIAC Tournament Champion Fairmont State earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Atlantic Region Tournament while Glenville State picked up an at-large bid.
The Pioneers (26-3) square off against No. 3 seed Shaw, which won the 2012 NCAA National Championship in a first-round battle. The Falcons (23-9) square off against the top seed in the region, Gannon.
GSC won 20 in a row before falling in the WVIAC Quarterfinals. The highest scoring team in the nation has a balanced attack as four average double figures despite barely averaging 20 minutes of game time per contest. The squad returns to the postseason for the second time in three years.
FSU is led by Kaitlin Snyder, who is the all-time leading scorer in school history. She is also one of 12 in WVIAC history to score at least 2,000 points. The postseason berth marks the fourth trip in the program’s history, including the third time in the last six seasons.
GSC netted the WVIAC regular-season title and had two players on the all-conference first team (Ginny Mills, Kenyona Simmons) while Ashleigh Fossett earned honorable mention accolades. The Falcons had two on the first team (Hailey Garrett, Snyder).
The tournament will be hosted by Gannon in Erie, PA

WVIAC 2012-13: Falcons Soar To WVIAC Women’s Championship
Fairmont State overcame a double-digit second-half deficit to win the WVIAC Championship with a 65-54 victory over Seton Hill.
The Falcons secured the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. It marked FSU’s first tournament title since the 2009-10 campaign. The squad will now await the NCAA Selection Show for its spot in the upcoming NCAA Atlantic Regional.
The Falcons soared at the start of the game, reeling off the first six points. Hailey Garrett got things going while Kaitlin Snyder buried a jumper prior to Briana Welch’s lay-up at the 17:06 mark.
The Griffins responded with a 13-0 run of their own. Clare Beranato and Paige Alviani hit back-to-back jumpers before Meghan Mastroianni made a lay-up. Alviani connected on an old-fashioned three-point play and Katie Gattuso drilled a three-point shot for a 13-6 edge.
FSU pulled within three when Welch canned a jumper at the 7:24 mark, making it 15-12. However, Alviani answered with a deep three-point shot for an 18-12 margin. Her lay-up made it an eight-point lead, but the Falcons answered with four quick points.
Tiara Stossel hit a three-point shot just before Berenato and Mastroianni connected on jumpers for a 27-16 SHU advantage. FSU pulled within seven with four points just before the break, making it a 27-20 contest entering intermission.
After the break, the Griffins netted the first five points of the second period for a 32-20 advantage with 18:42 to play. However, the Falcons went on a 26-6 run that spanned 9:22 to take a commanding 46-38 lead at the 8:24 mark. During the spurt, Hallie Gunnoe connected for seven straight points in a mere 1:13.
SHU fought back, making it 48-43 on Mallory Sanner’s three-point shot at the 7:25 mark, but Snyder quickly answered with a lay-up. FSU would not let the Griffins get any closer than six the rest of the way.
For the game, Snyder earned a double-double with 18 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Garrett scored 16 points while Gunnoe amassed 11 points and 10 boards off the bench. FSU shot 47.9% from the field in the game, including a sizzling 58.3% from the floor in the second half.
Alviani shared game-high accolades with 18 markers for SHU. Gattuso tallied 13 points, had eight rebounds and shared game-high honors with five assists. She swatted a game-best three shots. Sanner tied Gattuso for a team-high eight rebounds.
Snyder was named the WVIAC Tournament MVP.
WVIAC 2012-13: West Liberty and Fairmont State Earn Spots in The WVIAC Men Championship
No. 2 Fairmont State 75, No. 3 Alderson-Broaddus 74 (OT)
Fairmont State earned a 75-74 overtime win against Alderson-Broaddus in the first WVIAC semifinal of the evening.
The Battlers overcame a nine-point halftime deficit to force the overtime session. After Isaac Thornton made a lay-up with 49 seconds remaining to give the Battlers a 63-62 lead, Adam Kline connected on the first of two free throws, knotting the contest with 38 seconds remaining.
The Falcons got the ball after the second free throw attempt. However, the squad was unable to get a shot off in the allotted time, resulting in a shot clock violation. The Battlers tried to inbound the ball, but Andrew Gunnoe stole it with 1.4 seconds on the clock. FSU turned it over with 0.4 seconds left on the clock and A-B could not get a shot off, resulting in overtime.
The Battlers took a 65-63 lead on two free throws just four seconds into the extra session. A-B stretched it to four, but Chase Morgan drained a deep three-point shot, making it 67-66. Richard Lemon countered with a lay-up for the Battlers, pushing the margin back to three. Thornton then drilled a three, tying the contest at 69.
Casey Ainslie put the designated visitors up 72-69 with a three from the corner, but Malik Stith converted an old-fashioned three-point play, evening the count at 72 with just 68 seconds remaining. Thornton then drove the lane but was fouled and he calmly sank two for a 74-72 advantage.
Malcolm Tatum tied the contest on a lay-up. He was fouled, but missed the charity toss. Thornton corralled the rebound and drove the length of the court. He earned two foul shots with nine-tenths of a second remaining. Thornton made the first and missed the second and a three-quarter court heave by the Battlers was just off the target, giving the Falcons the 75-74 win.
The Falcons were paced by Brendan Cooper’s 19 points and seven rebounds. Stith added 17 points while Thornton contributed 14 to go along with five assists. Chase Morgan added nine. Stevie Browning netted eight markers.
Casey Ainslie scored a team-high 15 points. Adam Kline added 14 points and a game-high 10 rebounds while Kurklin Bohanon hit for 12 points to go along with nine rebounds. Tatum scored 12 points and dished out six assists and Roy Brown chipped in 10 markers.
No. 1 West Liberty 92, No. 4 Wheeling Jesuit 73
West Liberty canned 10 three-point field goals in the first half and opened up a 21-point halftime advantage before earning a 92-73 victory over Wheeling Jesuit.
With the win, the Hilltoppers will vie for their third straight WVIAC Tournament Title while appearing in their fourth consecutive tournament championship contest.
In the opening half, WLU scored 54 points and shot 60%, canning 21-of-35 shots from the field, including 10-of-20 from downtown. The squad had 17 assists in the first period.
The Hilltoppers extended their lead to 25 in the early going of the final frame, but the Cardinals would not give up. The team slowly cut the deficit to 13 with 6:18 to go on a free throw by Justin Fritts. At the 4:52 mark, Andre Harris converted a lay-up to make it a 77-68 game. With 2:39 to go, Joe Prati’s three-point shot made it 81-73. However, the team could get no closer as WLU connected on several free throws down the stretch to make it a 19-point contest.
For the game, Alex Falk scored a game-high 25 points for the victors. He also dished out six assists. C.J. Hester added 14 points and 12 boards while Shawn Dyer tallied 19 points, eight rebounds and eight assists. Tim Hausfeld scored 14 points, including 12 from behind the three-point arc. For the game, WLU dished out 27 assists on 31 buckets.
The Cardinals were paced by Fritts’ team-high 16 points. Ben Siefert added 14 points, six assists and four rebounds before fouling out. Prati netted 13 points while Eric Siefert chipped in 11. Harris accounted for nine points and had three steals.
Top-seeded West Liberty takes on No. 2 Fairmont State in the WVIAC Championship.
The game is slated for a 3:30 PM tip-off.
WVIAC 2012-13: Women’s Basketball Championship Preview
No. 2 Fairmont State vs. No. 5 Seton Hill
Fairmont State edged Seton Hill twice this season. The Falcons picked up a 59-58 overtime win over the Griffins on January 07 before downing SHU in Greensburg 72-71 on February 21.
In the first game, Kaitlin Snyder guided FSU to the win with a game-high 28 points. She was a rebound shy of a double-double performance. Hailey Garrett totaled 12 points and nine boards. Briana Welch and Kendra Holmes netted eight points apiece. The Griffins were led by Katie Gattuso’s team-high 21 points and game-best 10 rebounds. Tiara Stosel added 20 points while Paige Alviani chipped in 12 markers. The trio scored all but five points in the contest.
Welch hit for a team-best 16 points in the road victory. Emily Lohr notched 15 markers and seven rebounds. Garrett posted 14 points and 10 rebounds while Snyder tallied 14 points, eight assists and seven rebounds. FSU canned 51.7% of its shots in the game. For the Griffins, Alviani scored a game-high 21 points and snagged seven rebounds. Gattuso poured in 20 points and totaled 11 rebounds in the contest. SHU drilled eight three-point buckets and hit 15-of-18 free throws.
The Griffins are appearing in their first WVIAC Championship game while the Falcons last played in the title contest in 2010. That season, FSU posted an 85-78 overtime victory over West Liberty.
The game is set to air on ROOTSports Pittsburgh. Tip-off is slated for 1:00 PM.
WVIAC 2012-13: Pioneers Fall to AB 69-82 in WVIAC Quarterfinal
Alderson-Broaddus 82, Glenville State 69
Alderson-Broaddus drained 54.4% and overcame a second-half deficit in an 82-69 victory over Glenville State.
The Battlers held an early 12-4 lead in the first half only to see the Pioneers knot the contest at 13. GSC gained a 19-15 advantage before A-B fought back to take a 29-25 lead. After the Pioneers pulled within two, the Battlers extended their advantage to seven at the break.
GSC tied the contest at 45 with 13:54 to go and eventually took the lead at three different times in the second period. However, A-B went on a 12-0 run that spanned 2:54 to put the game away.
Kurklin Bohanon poured in a game-high 29 points and snagged nine rebounds to go along with a game-high four steals in the victory. Casey Ainslie netted 15 points while Roy Brown amassed 12 points and 10 rebounds. Adam Kline totaled 12 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks.
Lamar Mallory added to his double-double total for the season by posting 18 points and a game-high 13 rebounds .Kevin Gray and Jamel Morris scored 12 points apiece and JJ Vazquez accounted for 11 markers. DJ Blanks had nine points and a game-best seven assists.

Fairmont State 77, Seton Hill 63
Fairmont State controlled the paint by a 50-10 margin and ousted Seton Hill by a 77-63 count Thursday afternoon.
The Falcons jumped out to an 8-3 lead before Oliver McGlade buried a three-point shot as did Kameron Taylor, giving the Griffins a 9-8 advantage. McGlade drained another long shot for a 12-8 margin with 14:15 to go in the first half. However, FSU responded with a 30-12 spurt the rest of the way for a 14-point halftime margin.
Malik Stith paced the Falcons with a game-high 25 points while Isaac Thornton netted 23 to go along with his nine rebounds. Melvin Rhodes accounted for 11 points and eight boards. Isaiah Hill notched seven points, eight rebounds and had two blocks. FSU drained 23 charity shots.
McGlade drilled six three-point shots en route to a 24-point performance for the Griffins. Max Kenyi and Malachi Leonard scored nine points apiece. Kameron Taylor grabbed seven rebounds. Kenyi, Leonard and Lenjo Kilo had two blocks apiece.
Wheeling Jesuit 72, Charleston 62
Wheeling Jesuit overcame a halftime deficit to post a 72-62 victory over Charleston Thursday evening.
The Golden Eagles built an 11-point edge with 7:13 to play in the first half off a lay-up by Terrell Lipkins. After a time-out by the Cardinals, Justin Fritts drained a three-point shot, starting a 7-0 run by the designated home team. WJU trimmed the deficit to one on a banked in three-pointer by Andre Harris with five seconds left in the first half, making the score 37-36 in favor of UC.
WJU opened the second half on a 19-6 run, completing the spurt on a Fritts’ three-point shot. The Cardinals maintained a lead of at least six the rest of the way thanks in part to solid free throw shooting.
WJU was guided by a game-high 19 points from Fritts. Eric Siefert came off the bench to account for 15 points and 10 rebounds while Ben Siefert amassed 15 points and six assists. Joe Prati accounted for 12 markers and six rebounds.
UC was led by Xavier Humphrey’s game-high 19 points. He also contributed seven rebounds and two blocks. Lipkins netted 17 points while Robbie Dreher totaled 10 points and a game-best 13 rebounds. Evan Faulkner distributed a team-high five assists.
West Liberty 78, Pitt-Johnstown 66
West Liberty broke open a close game with a strong second half, earning a spot in the semifinals with a 78-66 victory over Pitt-Johnstown.
The Hilltoppers used a 12-3 run midway through the second half to pull away from the Mountain Cats. Leading by six with 11:15 to play, WLU put together a spurt that spanned 3:10 to lead by double digits and net the win.
The Hilltoppers were paced by Shawn Dyer’s 21 points. Alex Falk and Bubby Goodwin hit for 14 points apiece. Falk totaled six rebounds to go along with four assists and three steals. Seger Bonifant and Tim Hausfeld scored nine points each.
Jordan Miller guided the Mountain Cats with a team-high 19 markers. Nick Novak poured in 16 points while Andrew Cressler chipped in 15. Bill Luther scored seven points and grabbed eight boards. Noah Hartung pulled down 10 rebounds.

WLU canned 50% of its shots from the field. Snyder scored a team-high 17 points for the Falcons. Emily Lohr posted 16 points as Welch had 12. Garrett hit for 10 points and pulled down six rebounds.

Charleston garnered an 83-67 win over Seton Hill in Charleston on January 21 in the lone meeting between the two programs.
In the win, Jessi Cowden paced the victors with a game-high 24 points. Chelsea Brumby added 14 markers while Nichole Perry and Chrissy Keir added 11 and 10, respectively. Keir also dished out five assists while Cowden totaled four steals. Paige Alviani led the Griffins with 18 points and nine rebounds. WVIAC Women’s Basketball: Lady Pioneers Fall to UC in WVIAC Quarterfinals
Charleston 65, Glenville State 57
The University of Charleston drained 11 three-point shots en route to a 65-57 upset of top-seeded Glenville State.
The teams struggled to find the basket in the early going, with Kenyona Simmons hitting the first field goal of the contest 4:58 into the game. The Golden Eagles took an early five-point edge on Nichole Perry’s three-point shot, making it 15-10 at the 6:57 mark. The Pioneers came back to tie it with 5:10 to go on Ginny Mills’ three-point bucket. UC pushed the margin to three with 1:09 to go, but Kenyell Goodson drilled a three-point shot to tie it before the half at 28.
UC took an eight-point edge on another three by Perry at the 15:36 mark. After GSC pulled within one, the visitors made it a 10-point game with 1:03 left on the clock. The Pioneers could get no closer than six the rest of the way.
The Golden Eagles were paced by Nichole Perry’s game-high 18 points. Chrissy Keir tallied 14 points and eight assists in the win while Tianni Kelly added nine boards. Chelsea Brumby accounted for nine points off the bench while LeAnne Ross scored eight.
Mills and Simmons guided the Pioneers with 11 points apiece. Simmons snagged a team-high eight rebounds. Ashleigh Fossett and Jelena Elez netted nine and eight points, respectively. Aesha Peters had seven boards and two blocks.

Seton Hill 51, Alderson-Broaddus 45
Seton Hill withstood a strong challenge from Alderson-Broaddus to earn a 51-45 quarterfinal victory Wednesday afternoon.
The Griffins held a 30-25 halftime margin by canning 10-of-11 free throws in the opening half. SHU opened the second half with a 6-0 spurt for an 11-point advantage. However, the Battlers fought back, pulling within four, 41-37, with 7:50 to play.
A-B sliced the deficit to two with 4:29 to go and again at the 3:40 mark – both times with points from Cayla Rhodes. The Battlers could get no closer though as SHU hit its free throws down the stretch to secure the win.
The Griffins were paced by Katie Gattuso’s game-high 20 points. She also added a team-best seven rebounds. Paige Alviani connected for 10 points and dished out four assists. Kelly Brennan and Tiara Stossel each hit for nine points. Brennan netted the final two points of the afternoon. SHU drained 19-of-21 free throws in the game.
The Battlers were led by Rhodes and her team-high 15 points. Leah Hurst scored 12 while Erica Brooks amassed eight. Amanda Peoples was held to four points, but secured a game-high 14 rebounds. A-B out-rebounded the Griffins 46-35 and held a 21-11 advantage on the offensive glass.
West Liberty 88, Shepherd 87 (2 OT)
West Liberty bested Shepherd 88-87 in double-overtime Wednesday afternoon in an instant classic.
The Hilltoppers’ Liz Flowers connected on two free throws, tying the game at 69 and force the extra session. The Rams took a five-point lead in overtime only to see WLU use a 6-0 run to take a 77-76 lead with 30 seconds to play. Priscilla Moseh hit one of two free throws with 21 ticks on the clock, tying the contest. SU’s defense stepped up and did not allow the Hilltoppers to get off a potential game-winning shot.
In the second overtime, there were four ties, with the last coming at 85 apiece with 1:39 to go. Flowers hit a lay-up and hit a free throw for an old-fashioned three-point play. The Rams’ Alex Weakland stole the ball and hit a lay-up with 12 seconds to play, but WLU was able to keep the ball the rest of the time.
The Hilltoppers were led by Hillary Southworth’s game-high 27 points. Flowers connected for 21. She also grabbed a team-high seven rebounds as did Emily Blevins. Meghan Wiseman notched 14 points and three blocks and Jasmin Kiley came off the bench to net 11.
The Rams were paced by Emily Daniel’s tremendous performance. She amassed 25 points and 20 rebounds in 49 minutes of action. Priscilla Moseh notched 20 points to go along with seven rebounds. Gabby Flinchum hit for 12 points and tallied two blocks while Jimyse Brown registered 10 points and seven rebounds.
Fairmont State 65, West Virginia Wesleyan 54
Fairmont State overcame an early eight-point deficit by countering with a 27-6 run en route to a 65-54 victory over the defending WVIAC Champion West Virginia Wesleyan.
Trailing 12-4 with 14:15 to play in the first half, Kaitlin Snyder hit a lay-up that sparked the spurt by the Falcons. The 27-6 run spanned 11:25 and concluded on Hailey Garrett’s tip-in. FSU shot 48% in the first half while limiting the Bobcats to 29.4%.
The Falcons built a 27-point lead with 7:17 to go in the contest on a free throw by Garrett and cruised to the victory.
Briana Welch guided the victors with a game-high 18 points on a perfect night from the floor. She hit all seven field goals and connected on all four charity tosses in 32 minutes of action. Snyder netted 15 points, including her 2,000th of her storied career. She also dished out six assists. Garrett totaled 11 points and game-high 13 rebounds while Hallie Gunnoe and Tiffany Nicholson scored 10 points apiece.
The Bobcats were led by Brittany Williams’ team-best 15 points. She also added five rebounds and three steals. Brittany Maxey and Danesha Richardson each hit for eight points. Richardson snagged a team-high seven rebounds while Maxey had two blocks.

#11 Glenville State vs. #3 Alderson-Broaddus – 1:00 PM
The Battlers won both meetings against the Pioneers this season. A-B posted a 105-99 overtime win at home on Jan. 14 before notching a 79-70 victory in Glenville February 23.
O’Dell Eargle led five Battlers in double figures in the first meeting. He scored 23 points while Casey Ainslie amassed 20. Roy Brown hit for 19 points while Richard Lemon scored 13. Kurklin Bohanon went for 11 points as the team shot 52.2% from the field. Jamel Morris drained 11 field goals en route to a 30-point performance for the Pioneers. Lamar Mallory scored 19 and D.J. Blanks totaled 16. JJ Vazquez accounted for 11 points as GSC drained 57.1% of its shots from the floor.
Bohanon guided A-B with a game-high 22 points in the second contest. Brown hit for 16 points and dished out five assists. Adam Kline nearly had a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds. The Pioneers were led by Morris’ game-high 22 points. Blanks added 17 points and Mallory scored 15. Morris totaled a team-high seven boards.
#2 Fairmont State vs. #7 Seton Hill – 3:00 PM
The Falcons and Griffins split a pair of contests this year. FSU won its home game on Jan. 7 by a 69-53 score and SHU took a 76-73 victory on February 21.
Isaac Thornton scored a team-high 17 points in the win for the Falcons. Malik Stith added 13 points and Brendan Cooper had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Isaiah Hill chipped in 10 markers as the team hit 44.6% of its shots. Max Kenyi posted a game-best 20 points for the Griffins, including 12 from the foul line. Kameron Taylor added 15 points and Malachi Leonard narrowly missed a double-double with eight points and 10 boards.
SHU had a balanced scoring attack in its win. Kenyi and Leonard paced the squad with 17 points apiece. Lenjo Kilo netted 11 points and grabbed a team-high six rebounds. David Windsor added four steals. Stith scored a game-high 27 points for the Falcons. Cooper added 12 points and 13 rebounds while Thornton connected for 12 markers. Hill added nine points to go along with eight rebounds.
#4 Wheeling Jesuit vs. #5 Charleston – 6:30 PM
Wheeling Jesuit took both games from Charleston this season. The Cardinals won 68-67 on the road on Jan. 26 and posted an 86-80 double-overtime victory at home on February 21.
Joe Prati paced the victors in the first meeting by netting a team-best 22 points. Justin Fritts amassed 14 points and Ben Siefert totaled eight points, eight assists and eight rebounds. WJU pulled down 18 offensive rebounds in the win. Terrell Lipkins guided the Golden Eagles with a game-best 30 points. He also added six assists and six rebounds. Quincy Washington posted 16 markers on a seven-of-13 effort from the floor. UC canned 44.3% of its shots from the floor in the loss.
Fritts poured in a game-high 25 points and registered a career-best 10 steals in the second win for the Cardinals. Recardo Gaddy added 19 and Ben SIefert totaled 18 points and nine assists. Eric Siefert amassed 14 points and Prati swatted away four shots. Evan Faulkner scored 22 points to lead the Golden Eagles. Robbie Dreher scored 20 points and Lipkins netted 15. Xavier Humphrey added a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
#1 West Liberty vs. #9 Pitt-Johnstown – 8:30 PM
The Hilltoppers swept the season series, downing Pitt-Johnstown at home on Jan. 5 by a 101-92 score and on February 21 in Johnstown, Pa., by a 98-83 count.
In the first outing, Cedric Harris canned 14 field goals en route to a 32-point performance. C.J. Hester added 18 points while Chris Morrow and Shawn Dyer chipped in 17 and 10, respectively. WLU canned 52.9% of its shots from the field, including 52.6% from the three-point stripe. Nick Novak led the Mountain Cats with 26 points. Jordan Miller totaled 23 points while Ian Vescovi garnered 17 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Bill Luther scored 14.
Alex Falk connected for a game-best 32 points and had seven assists in the second meeting. Morrow accounted for 18 points and Seger Bonifant tallied 11. Hester amassed 10 points in the contest. The Hilltoppers drained 54.4% of their shots in the game. Novak guided UPJ with a team-high 27 points. Vescovi totaled 17 while Miller had 14 points and five assists. Luther accounted for 12.
WVIAC Men’s Basketball: Pioneers Down Shepherd 88-83 and Advance to Charleston
On Tuesday, Fairmont State, Alderson-Broaddus, Wheeling Jesuit, Charleston and Seton Hill won home games while Glenville State and Pitt-Johnstown secured road upsets as all secured spots in the WVIAC quarterfinals.
#11 Glenville State 88, #6 Shepherd 83
Glenville State shot 49.2% from the floor en route to an 88-83 upset at Shepherd.
Trailing by nine with 2:34 to go, the Rams climbed back into the contest. With 31 seconds to play, Sidney McCray canned two free throws to make it 85-83. However, the Pioneers would hit their free throws down the stretch to secure the win.
Jamel Morris guided the victors with a team-best 22 points. Lamar Mallory connected for 13 points and a game-high 12 rebounds while Kevin Gray netted 13 markers. DJ Blanks hit for 11 points while JJ Vazquez totaled 10 points.
Chad Moore scored a game-high 29 points for the Rams in the loss. Austin Cunningham accounted for 14 points while McCray scored 13. Morgan McDonald narrowly missed a double-double with nine points and 12 rebounds.

#9 Pitt-Johnstown 92, #8 Concord 82
For the second time this season, Pitt-Johnstown tangled with Concord in Athens. After dropping the first meeting, the Mountain Cats bested the Mountain Lions 92-82 Tuesday evening in a first-round match-up.
Bill Luther led UPJ in the win with a game-best 24 points. He drained eight-of-11 shots from the floor, including six-of-eight from downtown. Jordan Miller connected for 20 points while Nick Novak registered 19 markers. Miller dished out five assists. Ian Vescovi had just six points but also swatted six shots.
In the loss, Damien Tunstalle turned in a 17-point performance. Eric Bailey totaled 15 points and grabbed five boards. Mike Boyd and Jordan Davis hit for 14 points apiece. Davis totaled eight rebounds before fouling out while Boyd dished out nine assists. Thomas Brown accounted for 13 points.
#7 Seton Hill 66, #10 West Virginia Wesleyan 63
West Virginia Wesleyan closed the game on an 8-0 run over the final 78 seconds, but could not tie the contest and fell 66-63 to Seton Hill.
The Griffins used a solid team game, canning 50% of their shots from the floor in the win. Nate Perry and David Windsor scored 15 points apiece for SHU. Perry dished out five assists while Windsor snagged a team-best eight rebounds. Malachi Leonard chipped in eight points for the win.
Rayond Warren tallied a game-high 24 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for the double-double. He also distributed six assists in the game. Kelsey Williams registered 23 points and a game-best 18 rebounds for the Bobcats. Noah Cottrill and Chris Dewberry scored seven points apiece.
#3 Alderson-Broaddus 84, #14 Bluefield State 54
Alderson-Broaddus led by 26 at halftime and never looked back in the 84-54 win over Bluefield State.
Kurklin Bohanon led a balanced scoring attack with 14 points and six rebounds. Adam Kline also hit for 14 markers and grabbed a team-best seven rebounds. Malcolm Tatum connected for nine points as did Richard Lemon. The Battlers held BSC to 25.8% shooting.
Roy Cooper guided the Big Blues with a game-high 15 points. He also snagged seven rebounds. Treon Claiborne narrowly missed a double-double with 10 points and a game-best nine rebounds. Simeon Denny chipped in nine markers.
#5 Charleston 97, #12 West Virginia State 83
Charleston broke open a close game in the second half and posted a 97-83 win over West Virginia State Tuesday evening.
Terrell Lipkins canned eight shots from the floor en route to a 24-point performance for the victors. He also distributed six assists and had five rebounds. Evan Faulkner totaled 20 points while Robbie Dreher chipped in 17. Fred Simpson swatted three shots for the Golden Eagles. The team drained 54% of its shots from the floor.
Anton Hutchins paced the Yellow Jackets with a team-best 20 points. He connected on seven field goals in the game. David Ford tallied 18 points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds while Jalen Walker accounted for 15 points.
#4 Wheeling Jesuit 77, #13 Davis & Elkins 69
Wheeling Jesuit used a 13-2 run over the final 1:53 to secure a come-from-behind win over Davis & Elkins by a 77-69 score.
Eric Siefert poured in a team-high 17 points to pace the Cardinals to the win He connected on seven-of-11 shots from the floor. Joe Prati netted 16 points while Ben Siefert had 11 points, eight assists and five rebounds for the victors. Prati also had three steals as the team shot 58.3% in the contest.
D’Quan Lynch played spectacular, totaling 20 points, dishing out seven assists and grabbing four rebounds in the loss. Devin Miller scored 18 points and had four steals. Shane Brown and Igor Premasunac scored 12 points apiece. The Senators hit 54.3% of their shots from the field.
#2 Fairmont State 96, #15 Ohio Valley 85
Fairmont State ended the game on a 15-5 run over the final 5:36, securing the 96-85 win over Ohio Valley.
Malik Stith posted a team-best 19 points for the Falcons, including 11 that came from the charity stripe. Brendan Cooper connected for 18 points on eight-of-11 shooting while Isaac Thornton netted 16 points, six boards and four steals. Ke’Chaun Lewis produced five steals for the victors.
Jerry Macon Jr., scored a game-high 27 points, including 21 that came from behind the three-point stripe. Ashton Brown amassed 20 points and 10 rebounds while Povilas Dambrauskas garnered 14 points, six assists and six boards.

WVIAC 2012-13: Women’s Basketball First Round Tournament Review
On Monday, Fairmont State, West Liberty, Seton Hill and Shepherd recorded home wins while Alderson-Broaddus, Charleston and West Virginia Wesleyan all posted road upsets as all earned spots in Wednesday’s WVIAC quarterfinals.
#13 Alderson-Broaddus 58, #4 Davis & Elkins 54
Alderson-Broaddus earned a first-round victory, shocking No. 4 Davis & Elkins 58-54 on the road. It marked the first victory for the Battlers in the opening round since 1999.
Trailing 52-48 with 5:56 to play, the Battlers reeled off 10 of the final 12 points to secure the victory. Leah Hurst completed an old-fashioned three-point play, pulling A-B within one with 4:37 to go. She then drained a three-point shot at the 2:31 mark for a 54-52 advantage.
Beth Gribble knotted the contest for the Senators with 2:09 to play, but Nautica Davis gave the visitors the lead for good with a jumper at the 1:25 mark. Hurst added two foul shots with 11 ticks on the clock to secure the win.
Hurst accounted for a game-high 20 points and grabbed six rebounds for A-B. Cayla Rhodes amassed 11 points, pulled down five boards and swatted five shots in just 18 minutes of work. Davis chipped in nine points and dished out six assists in the contest.
D&E was led by Page Turner’s 11 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Amy Turner totaled nine markers while Jorden Lykes scored eight points to go along with a game-best 12 rebounds. Ashley Bowles came off the bench to score eight.
#9 Charleston 72, #8 Pitt-Johnstown 64
For the second consecutive season, Charleston traveled to Pitt-Johnstown and posted a first-round victory. The Golden Eagles won by a 72-64 count.
After trailing by as many as eight in the opening minutes, UC fought back to take a 35-32 lead at the break. The Golden Eagles pushed their advantage to 12 with 7:41 to play in the game, but the Lady Cats pulled within four. However, UC canned its free throws down the stretch to secure the win.
Kali Cuttaia led the victors with a team-best 15 points. She also snagged 10 rebounds for her first career double-double performance. The 15 points marked a career high while she was just one rebound shy of her career best. Jessi Cowden added 14 markers while Tianni Kelly and Nichole Perry registered 12 and 10, respectively. LeAnne Ross netted nine points. Chrissy Keir amassed eight points and distributed a game-high six assists.
Kelsey Sleighter led UPJ with a game-high 16 markers off the bench. She canned four-of-seven three-point shots. Jasmine Harper totaled 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Kaitlynn Fratz recorded 14 points while Rachel Johnson grabbed a game-best 11 rebounds.
#7 Shepherd 62, #10 Bluefield State 61
Rachel Johnson scored 11 points, including the game-winning three-point shot with two seconds remaining, sending Shepherd to the quarterfinals with a 62-61 win over Bluefield State.
Tied at 59, Dragana Tomic stole the ball for the Lady Blues with 22 seconds to play. After a time-out, BSC missed a lay-up, but Charlene Diggs pulled down the rebound and put back a short shot for a 61-59 advantage with five seconds remaining. Johnson then connected on the game-winning shot.
Gabby Flinchum garnered a game-best 19 points off the bench while Jimyse Brown added 12 points and 11 boards in the win. Johnson pulled down six rebounds to go along with her 11 markers. Alex Weakland snagged seven rebounds.
Shae Mebane totaled a huge game, netting 17 points and grabbed a game-best 15 rebounds. Charity Harris accounted for 12 points and six rebounds. She also dished out five assists. Tomic scored eight points.
#2 Fairmont State 83, #15 Wheeling Jesuit 47
Fairmont State opened the WVIAC Tournament with an 83-47 win over Wheeling Jesuit on Monday night at Joe Retton Arena.
The Falcons (20-9) now advance to take on West Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday night at 8:30 AM at the Charleston Civic Center. The Bobcats were 66-56 winners over West Virginia State on Monday night in Institute. WVWC defeated Fairmont State 82-62 in the only meeting between the two teams this season.
Emily Lohr paced the Falcon offense with 17 points, including four three-pointers, to go with six rebounds. Hailey Garrett added 16 points and six rebounds for FSU. Kaitlin Snyder scored 11 points, handed out a game-high seven assists and grabbed six rebounds for FSU.
Wheeling Jesuit (8-19) was led by 12 points from Jaila Bryant. Jamie Sobczak had eight points and 10 rebounds for the Cardinals.
Fairmont State shot 58% from the field for the game, while Wheeling Jesuit struggled from the field making just 22% of its shots. The Cardinals were just 4-of-22 from behind the arc and made only 15-of-23 from the free throw line.
#11 West Virginia Wesleyan 66, #6 West Virginia State 56
Defending WVIAC Champion West Virginia Wesleyan earned a 66-56 victory at No. 6 West Virginia State, advancing to the league quarterfinals.
The Bobcats led by 11 and the break and never looked back in the contest. Brittany Maxey notched a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds, in addition to five steals. Atavia Blake garnered 14 points and 11 boards while Kerry Conroy chipped in 14. Allie Browne distributed seven assists.
India Taste had a superb all-around game for the Yellow Jackets. She hit for 14 points and grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds for a double-double. She also had six assists. Jasmine Blanton and Jordan Brock totaled 13 and 12, respectively.
#3 West Liberty 81, #14 Ohio Valley 39
West Liberty recorded an 81-39 victory over Ohio Valley a WVIAC first-round game Monday evening.
West Liberty reeled off 18 unanswered points over an 8 1/2-minute span of the first half to put the Fighting Scots (2-25) out of their misery in short order.
A pair of Jenn Mohney free throws closed out the surge, putting the Hilltoppers up by a whopping 30-7 margin with 3:31 still to play in the first half.
West Liberty settled for a 36-13 lead at intermission and led by as many as 46 points in the waning minutes.
Senior Meghan Wiseman led all scorers with 21 points in her final game at the ASRC while fellow senior Jordan Stacey came off the bench for 10 points and 10 rebounds. Hillary Southworth added 17 points, 5 steals and 4 assists while Liz Flowers chipped in with 10 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals.
Kayla Parsley had 11 points and 13 rebounds to pace OVU.
#5 Seton Hill 78, #12 Concord 65
Seton Hill overcame an early two-point deficit in the second half to record a 78-65 victory over Concord.
The Mountain Lions took a 38-36 lead on a three-point bucket by Stephanie Wagner at the 19:04 mark, but the Griffins responded with a 13-2 run over the next 5:11, securing the lead for good.
Katie Gattuso erupted for a game-high 31 points and grabbed a WVIAC season-best 21 rebounds, for the Griffins. Tiara Stossel notched 17 points and snagged seven boards. Paige Alviani connected for 15 points. SHU hit 27-of-32 foul shots (84.4%) for the contest.
Stephanie Wagner hit for a team-best 21 points and dished out a game-high nine assists for the Mountain Lions. Rachel Artrip notched 14 points while Jacqueline Kestner totaled 12 points and 11 boards. Amanda Smith chipped in 11 markers.

Lady Pioneers Remain No. 12 in Latest Rankings
Glenville State, which begins play in the WVIAC Tournament Wednesday evening, remains the No. 12 team in the latest USA TODAY Sports Division II Top 25 women’s basketball poll.
The Pioneers are 26-2 on the year and have won 20 consecutive games. GSC completed its portion of conference play with a 21-1 mark. The squad garnered 431 total points in the rankings.
The squad leads the nation in scoring (96.6 ppg), three-point field goals made (396) and three-point field goals made per game (14.14).
The Pioneers return to action Wednesday, February 27, 2013when they take on Charleston at 6:30 AM in the quarterfinal round in the Charleston Civic Center.

WVIAC Men’s Basketball 2012—2013 All Conference Team
West Liberty senior guard Alex Falk has been named the WVIAC Player of the Year as voted on by the league’s coaches. Wheeling Jesuit guard Justin Fritts garnered Freshman of the Year honors while West Liberty head coach Jim Crutchfield picked up his fourth consecutive Coach of the Year accolade and his fifth overall.
Falk, a 6’3” senior guard from Upper Sandusky, Ohio, guided the Hilltoppers to a 27-1 overall record on the season, including a 21-1 mark in WVIAC play. His stellar play led WLU to its fourth straight WVIAC regular-season championship and to a No. 3 national ranking heading into postseason play.
Falk leads the WVIAC in steals, averaging 3.11 a game. He is fourth in scoring by netting 20.7 points per game. He ranks seventh in assist-to-turnover margin and 11th in free throw%age in the conference. Falk is second on his squad in offensive rebounds (48). He has helped the Hilltoppers win 13 consecutive games and a No. 1 ranking in the Atlantic Region heading into the WVIAC Tournament.
Fritts, a 6’1” guard from Mentor, Ohio, led the Cardinals to a No. 4 seed heading into the conference tournament. He accounts for 15.9 points per game and is second on the squad in assists. Fritts drains 50.2% of his shots from the floor and is second on the team with 48 three-point buckets. He is 14th in the league in scoring.
Crutchfield earned his fifth Coach of the Year accolade after leading the Hilltoppers to their fourth straight league title and a 27-1 overall mark. WLU finished WVIAC play with a 21.1 record. He guided West Liberty to a No. 3 spot in the NABC Coaches’ Poll. Now in his ninth season, Crutchfield has led the Hilltoppers to at least 20 wins every year. WLU leads the nation in scoring at 105.5 points per outing. Collectively, his team hits 52.1% of their shots from the floor and outscore its opponents by 26 points per game.

GSC’s Bunky Harkleroad Named WVIAC Coach of the Year - 2013
West Liberty senior guard Hillary Southworth has been named the WVIAC’s Player of the Year, as voted on by the league coaches. Pitt-Johnstown guard Jasmine Harper has been named the conference’s Freshman of the Year while Glenville State’s Bunky Harkleroad has been tabbed the Coach of the Year.
Southworth guided the Hilltoppers to a second-place finish in the WVIAC regular-season standings. She keyed WLU into winning 10 of its last 12 games of the regular season, propelling the squad into second. Southworth, a native of Twinsburg, Ohio, led the Hilltoppers to a 19-7 overall mark, including a 17-5 record against league competition.
She garnered four WVIAC Player of the Week accolades on the year. Southworth led the WVIAC with her scoring average of 24.2, which is the second-best mark in Division II this season. In the WVIAC, she finished fifth in minutes played per game (35), sixth in three-point field goals made per game (2.12), seventh in free throw percentage (79.9%), eighth in steals per game (1.96) and 12th in three-point field goal percentage (37.7%).
Harper, a native of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, helped the Lady Cats into the upper echelon of the WVIAC with her solid campaign. She led the team in offensive rebounds (72), was second in field goal percentage (48.3%) and rebounds per outing (6.6) and was third in points per game(8.5). Harper finished fifth in the league standings for offensive rebounds per game (3.13), 10th for field goal percentage and in 16th in rebounds per game. It marks the second straight season that UPJ has had the Freshman of the Year as Kaitlynn Fratz picked up the honor a season ago.
Harkleroad guided Glenville State to the WVIAC regular-season championship after registering a 26-2 overall mark, including a 21-1 record against league competition. The award is the first for Harkleroad and marks the fifth time that a coach from GSC has won the award. He currently has the Pioneers at No. 12 in the latest national rankings and No. 3 in the Atlantic Region.

GSC’s Ginny Mills Captures WVIAC Accolade
Glenville State’s Ginny Mills has been named the WVIAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, as announced by the league office.
Mills, a 5’7” junior guard from Steubenville, Ohio, guided the Pioneers to a 3-0 week and the top seed in the upcoming WVIAC Tournament. It marked the third time this season she picked up the honor.
In the win at Charleston, Mills went for 23 points and chipped in six rebounds in 27 minutes of work. Fifteen of her points came from behind the three-point stripe. Against Concord, she erupted for 33 points on 13 field goals, including seven from downtown. In the regular-season finale against Alderson-Broaddus, Mills played just 17 minutes but once again registered game-high honors. She connected on 10-of-18 shots from the floor, including an eight-of-14 effort from the three-point line. Mills also recorded six steals.
The Pioneers have a first-round bye and will take the court Wednesday evening in a quarterfinal game at the Charleston Civic Center. GSC will take on the winner of the No. 8-No. 9 match-up.

WVIAC Tournament 2012-13: Quarterfinals Preview
No. 5 Seton Hill vs. No. 13 Alderson-Broaddus – 1:00 PM
Seton Hill picked up two victories over Alderson-Broaddus this season. The Griffins won the first meeting on December 08 by an 80-63 score and earned a home win over A-B on January 24 by a 66-56 count.
Katie Gattuso garnered 24 points and 11 rebounds in the first game to lead SHU. Kelly Brennan added 22 points off the bench while Paige Alviani scored 13. The Griffins hit 52% of their shots in the contest. Amanda Peoples led the Battlers with 16 points. Leah Hurst added 15 points and a team-best seven boards while Shirshawna Dowdy had eight points and five boards.
Gattuso powered home 20 points and snagged 11 rebounds in the second contest. Alviani totaled 17 points and six assists while Tiara Stossel chipped in 10 points and four steals. Hurst paced the Battlers with 15 points and Dowdy netted 12. Peoples narrowly missed a double-double with nine points and 13 rebounds.
No. 2 West Liberty vs. No. 7 Shepherd – 3:00 PM
West Liberty and Shepherd split the regular-season series as each team won on the opposing court. The Hilltoppers claimed a 94-86 win in Shepherdstown January 7 before falling 73-70 at home on February 18.
In the first game, Hillary Southworth poured in a game-high 34 points in addition to grabbing eight boards and recording four steals. Meghan Wiseman totaled 17 points while Bri Kamarec and Liz Flowers chipped in 11 and 10, respectively. Emily Daniel paced the Rams with 19 points. Rachel Johnson added 16 while Gabby Flinchum and Kristina Prange had 11 apiece. Priscilla Moseh accounted for 10 points.
The Rams were guided by Flinchum and Johnson in the second meeting. The duo scored 20 points apiece. Emily Daniel added 14 points to go along with eight boards. Southworth and Wiseman each hit for 24 points. Southworth had eight boards, six assists and six steals while Wiseman grabbed nine boards.
No. 1 Glenville State vs. No. 9 Charleston – 6:30 PM
Glenville State recorded a season sweep over Charleston. The Pioneers won the first game 87-84 at home on November 10 before winning in Charleston February 18 by an 80-66 count.
Ashleigh Fossett paced GSC with a game-high 29 points in the first game. She drilled nine three-point shots. Ginny Mills totaled 16 points and nine rebounds while Kenyona Simmons tallied 14 points and nine boards. Jessi Cowden led the Golden Eagles with 25 points in 27 minutes. LeAnne Ross garnered 17 points while Chelsea Brumby, Chrissy Keir and Tianni Kelly all chipped in 10 points.
In the second game, Simmons torched the nets for a game-high 25 points while Mills hit for 23 points. Mills and LaToya Hambrick each pulled down six boards. Kenyell Goodson and Hambrick each chipped in eight markers. The Golden Eagles were paced by Kelly’s 13 points and 13 rebounds. She and Keir also dished out four assists. Nichole Perry netted 13 markers while Cowden tallied nine points and seven boards.
No. 2 Fairmont State vs. No. 11 West Virginia Wesleyan – 8:30 PM
West Virginia Wesleyan won the lone match-up between the two programs this season. On February 2, the Bobcats posted an 82-62 home win over the Falcons.
Atavia Blake posted 24 points and 11 rebounds to pace WVWC in the win. Kerry Conroy connected for 16 points while Brittany Maxey garnered a double-double with 14 points and 13 boards. Allie Browne added 14 points and eight assists. WVWC drained 51.8% of its shots from the field.
Tiffany Nicholson and Briana Welch netted 14 points apiece for the Falcons in the contest. Kaitlin Snyder hit for 13 points, grabbed six boards and recorded four steals. Hailey Garrett totaled 11 points and 11 rebounds to go along with three steals. FSU was limited to one-of-15 from downtown.
WVIAC Men’s Basketball: Pioneers Fall to AB 70-79
Alderson-Broaddus, Charleston, Concord, Fairmont State, Seton Hill, West Liberty and West Virginia Wesleyan all garnered WVIAC victories.
Alderson-Broaddus 79, Glenville State 70
Alderson-Broaddus hit 50 percent of its shots en route to a 79-70 road win at Glenville State.
The Battlers were guided by Kurklin Bohanon’s game-high 22 points in the victory. Roy Brown notched 16 points to go along with five assists while Adam Kline hit for 12 points and pulled down nine rebounds. Richard Lemon chipped in eight points in 14 minutes off the bench.
Jamel Morris shared game-high honors by netting 22 points for the Pioneers. He also grabbed a team-best seven rebounds. DJ Blanks amassed 17 points and six rebounds while Lamar Mallory connected for 15 markers.

West Liberty 101, Wheeling Jesuit 76
No. 3 West Liberty downed Wheeling Jesuit 101-76 Saturday afternoon at the ASRC.
Coach Jim Crutchfield’s Hilltoppers (27-1, 21-1) shot a blistering 63 percent from the floor in the second half and had three players post double-doubles in rolling to their 13th straight win.
The Cardinals (17-9, 14-8) had entered the game on a bit of a roll themselves with 11 wins in their last 12 games. They had battled the Hilltoppers to a 34-34 standstill heading into the final 2 minutes of the first half only to see momentum swing decisively in favor of the Black and Gold.
West Liberty hit its last four shots of the half – all of them from behind the 3-point arc – to open up a 46-39 lead at intermission and Wheeling Jesuit never recovered.
The margin hit double-figures for the first time in the opening minutes of the second half and the Cardinals were unable to mount a serious challenge.
WJU cut the deficit into single digits for the last time, 66-57, on a Recardo Gaddy 3-pointer with 11:35 remaining but WLU answered with an 11-1 burst over the next 2 minutes and West Liberty went on to lead by as many as 27 points down the stretch.
Shawn Dyer, who got the start in place of injured All-WVIAC point guard Cedric Harris, tossed in 21 points and handed out a career-high 11 assists in a dazzling performance. Alex Falk added 20 points, 6 rebounds and 4 steals while C.J. Hester checked in with 16 points and 13 rebounds.
Bonifant and Goodwin came off the bench with 15 and 13 points, respectively, on Saturday while Chris Morrow gave the hosts their third double-double of the game with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Gaddy paced WJU with 21 points while Ben Siefert and Justin Fritts added 15 each.
Seton Hill 86, Pitt-Johnstown 80
Seton Hill scored 11 of the last 16 points to record an 86-80 road win at Pitt-Johnstown Saturday.
Malachi Leonard poured in a team-high 25 points to pace the Griffins to the victory. Oliver McGlade netted 14 points while Ozren Bjelogrlic chipped in 13. David Windsor amassed 12 markers while Nate Perry dished out six assists.
Nick Novak registered a game-best 35 points for the Mountain Cats. He also distributed a team-best four assists. Bill Luther added 12 points while Andrew Cressler totaled nine. Paul Weatherly came off the bench to hit for nine.
Charleston 92, West Virginia State 75
The University of Charleston registered a 92-75 victory over West Virginia State Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Eagles were guided by Robbie Dreher’s game-high 17 points and seven rebounds. He also swatted three shots. Evan Faulkner and Terrell Lipkins added 16 apiece. Lipkins and Dreher had four assists each. Quincy Washington came off the bench to hit for 10 points in just 12 minutes.
Anton Hutchings led the Yellow Jackets with a team-best 12 points. Jalen Walker added 11 while Raymon Austin and David Ford netted 10 points apiece. Austin snagged seven boards as did Juan Johnson.
West Virginia Wesleyan 73, Davis & Elkins 72
Kelsey Williams connected on a three-pointer in the final seconds, giving West Virginia Wesleyan a 73-72 win over Davis & Elkins.
Williams amassed another double-double by totaling 31 points and 12 rebounds, keying the Bobcats’ victory. Caleb Ashley netted 13 points while Noah Cottrill and Chris Dewberry each had 11 points off the bench.
Igor Premasunac led the Senators with 17 points and seven boards. D’Quan Lynch nearly had a triple-double with 16 points, eight assists and eight rebounds. Devin Miller also connected for 16 points. Josh Wamsley and Shane Brown scored 13 and 10, respectively.
Fairmont State 90, Ohio Valley 42
Fairmont State smothered Ohio Valley, 90-42, on Saturday afternoon at Joe Retton Arena.
Fairmont State finishes the regular season with a record of 19-7 overall and 17-5 in conference play. The Falcons are the No. 2 seed in next week’s WVIAC Tournament. The Fighting Scots finish the regular season 3-25 overall and 2-20 in WVIAC action.
Senior Malik Stith led the way for Fairmont State with 15 points, all of which came in the first half. Isaac Thornton added 13 points for the Falcons.
Ohio Valley was led by 12 points from David Sinickas. Ashton Brown had 10 points and four rebounds.
Fairmont State shot 50 percent from the field and out-rebounded Ohio Valley 49-24. The Falcons forced OVU into 27 turnovers in the game.
Leading just 22-19 midway through the first half, Fairmont State turned things up and out-scored Ohio Valley 26-6 the rest of the way to seize control of the game. Stith had a big first half with 15 of his points coming in the first 20 minutes, and Thornton added 10 points. FSU pulled down 29 rebounds in the first half, including 14 on the offensive end. The Falcons had 14 second chance points in the first half to help build its lead.
Concord 82, Bluefield State 71
A balanced scoring attack and 56.9 percent shooting led Concord to an 82-71 win over Bluefield State.
Thomas Brown and Damien Tunstalle connected for 17 points apiece for the Mountain Lions. Mike Boyd totaled 16 markers while Jordan Davis accounted for 11 points and nine rebounds. Nick Moyer chipped in eight while Cam Shannon totaled seven.
Treon Claiborne continued his solid season by posting 15 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double in the loss. Detterance Norwood and Vincent Rogers scored 12 points apiece while Antoine Bryant tallied 10.
WVIAC Women’s Basketball: Lady Pioneers Roll on Senior Day as they Beat AB 116-63
Bluefield State, Davis & Elkins, Fairmont State, Glenville State, Seton Hill, West Liberty and West Virginia State picked up victories Saturday afternoon.

The Pioneers drained 16 three-point shots, including eight from Ginny Mills, who netted a game-best 30 points. She also registered six steals. Kenyona Simmons added 22 points in just 19 minutes while Ashleigh Fossett hit for 20 points. LaToya Hambrick totaled 10 points and eight rebounds while Jelena Elez dished out eight assists.
The Battlers were guided by Leah Hurst’s team-best 13 points on a five-of-nine effort from the field. Erica Brooks added nine markers while Nautica Davis came off the bench to tally eight points and record four assists. Cayla Rhodes pulled down five rebounds.

Seton Hill’s defense proved to be the defense in the 64-55 road win at Pitt-Johnstown Saturday.
The Griffins forced the Lady Cats into 29.7% shooting from the floor, including 16.7% from downtown.
In the victory, Paige Alviani netted a game-high 22 points to go along with four assists. Katie Gattuso added 17 points and 10 rebounds while Mallory Sanner totaled 10 points and seven boards. Clare Berenato pulled down 13 boards.
In the loss, Kelsey Sleighter poured in 15 points to lead the way. Jasmine Harper produced 12 points and 12 rebounds while Kaitlynn Fratz added 11 markers to go along with four assists. Rachel Johnson snagged 13 rebounds.
West Liberty 67, Wheeling Jesuit 56
The West Liberty University women’s basketball team broke open a close game with an 11-0 run midway through the second half and pulled away to a 67-56 win against Ohio County rival Wheeling Jesuit in a mutual regular-season finale Saturday afternoon at the ASRC.
Neither team led by more than 4 points for the first 30 minutes in a defensive struggle which featured 14 ties and 13 lead changes.
Wheeling Jesuit matched its largest lead of the day, 41-38, when Jaila Bryant dropped in a pair of free throws at the 12:49 mark of the second half but that’s when West Liberty finally began to hit its stride.
Hillary Southworth, the nation’s second-leading scorer at 24.4 ppg., had been held to just 8 points in the first half but found the range with a pair of short jumpers to put the Hilltoppers ahead to stay, 41-40, as the clock ticked past the 12-minute mark.
West Liberty wasn’t finished, however. Jordan Stacey kept the run going by dropping in two free throws after drawing the fourth foul on WJU standout Taneka Lewis.
Liz Flowers then brought the crowd to its feet by blocking a 3-point attempt at the other end of the floor and racing end-to-end for a layup and a 46-41 Hilltopper lead.
After a Wheeling Jesuit miss, Southworth and Flowers came racing out of the backcourt on a 2-on-1 break. Southworth fed Flowers, who laid in the basket as she was fouled and capped the 11-0 run with a free throw to finish off the conventional 3-point play.
The Cardinals’ Jamie Sobczak stopped the bleeding with a 10-foot jumper but WLU’s Jasmin Kiley answered with a 3-point bomb for a 52-43 bulge with 8:41 to play.
Bryant got a short jumper to go but another conventional 3-point play from Flowers gave the hosts their first double-digit lead, 55-45, with 8 minutes left and Wheeling Jesuit never threatened again.
Southworth finished with a double-double – 20 points and 11 rebounds – while Kiley added 15 points off the bench. Flowers stuffed the stat sheet with 13 points, 7 assists, 6 rebounds and 4 blocked shots while Emily Blevins chipped in with 10 points and 8 rebounds.
Lewis led WJU with 17 points. Bryant added 11 with Alex Anderson working the paint for 10 points and a dozen rebounds.
Davis & Elkins 65, West Virginia Wesleyan 49
Davis & Elkins limited West Virginia Wesleyan to 29% shooting en route to a 65-49 victory.
Page Turner led all scorers with 19 points in addition to posting four assists and four steals in the victory. Sharmaine Baker added 11 points off the bench while Ashley Bowles and Alicia Lentz hit for eight apiece. Lentz also swatted four shots. Jorden Lykes grabbed seven boards.
Brittany Maxey totaled a team-best 15 points for the Bobcats while Kerry Conroy chipped in 10 markers. Atavia Blake narrowly missed a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds to go along with three steals and two blocks.
Fairmont State 77, Ohio Valley 70
Fairmont State overcame a 10-point first half deficit to pick up a 77-70 win over Ohio Valley on Saturday afternoon at Joe Retton Arena.
FSU was led by 19 points from Kaitlin Snyder. Tiffany Nicholson scored 16 points, had eight assists and five steals for the Falcons. Emily Lohr notched 12 points and a team-best nine rebounds. Hailey Garrett contributed 16 points off the bench for FSU.
Ohio Valley had five players in double figures led by Shelby Way’s 17 points. Jasmine Gibson added 16, Kayla Parsley scored 13, Saira House contributed 12 and Amy Brooks chipped in 10 for the Fighting Scots.
Ohio Valley started out with an early 5-0 lead, but Fairmont State got back in front with a 12-2 run. Fairmont State couldn’t break away, though, and Ohio Valley out-scored the Falcons 19-4 over the final seven minutes of action to take a 36-26 lead at the half. FSU went without a field goal and committed seven turnovers during that span. Ohio Valley held a commanding 26-12 advantage on the glass in the first half that helped it overcome the 16 turnovers it committed.
The Fighting Scots maintained its lead midway through the second half before Fairmont State went on a crucial 12-2 run over three minutes to take a 64-60 lead. Leading just 66-64, Snyder drained a three and then added a layup, and Garrett added another score to put the Falcons up 73-64 with just 2:24 left. Fairmont State would do its job the rest of the way to preserve the victory.
Bluefield State 75, Concord 55
Bluefield State overcame a two-point halftime deficit to post a 75-55 win at Concord Saturday afternoon.
Charlene Diggs led all scorers with 20 points, including 11 from the foul line. Shae Mebane notched 14 points while Dragana Tomic and Charity Harris had seven apiece. Harris dished out seven assists while Tomic had five. Kelli Morgan pulled down a team-best seven rebounds.
In the loss, Tanisha Williams guided the squad with 14 points to go along with nine rebounds. Katy Somerville accounted for 11 points while Sammi Webster netted 10. Rachel Artrip had nine points. Jacqueline Kestner snagged 10 rebounds.
West Virginia State 78, Charleston 56
West Virginia State had two players net over 20 points in a 78-56 victory over Charleston.
Jasmine Blanton paved the way for the Yellow Jackets with 28 points while Asia Greenleaf contributed 21 points to go along with 13 rebounds. Jordan Brock narrowly missed a double-double with nine points and 13 rebounds while India Taste snagged 11 boards.
Nichole Perry netted a team-best 19 points for the Golden Eagles. Jessi Cowden contributed 13 markers and had three thefts. Chrissy Keir posted 10 points and dished out five assists in 36 minutes of work.
WVIAC Announces Men’s Tournament Bracket - 2013
West Liberty secured the top seed in next week’s WVIAC Men’s Tournament and will have a first-round bye.
The Hilltoppers completed the regular season with a 27-1 overall mark, including a 21-1 effort in WVIAC play. WLU has a first-round bye and will take on the winner of the No. 8/9 game on Thursday, Feb. 28, at the Charleston Civic Center at 8:30 PM
Fairmont State ended the regular season with a 19-7 overall record, including a 17-5 mark against conference competition. The Falcons host Ohio Valley (3-25, 2-20) Tuesday, Feb. 26 at 7:30 PM
Alderson-Broaddus (18-8, 16-6) secured the No. 3 seed and will host Bluefield State (4-22, 4-18) at 7:30 PM Tuesday evening. Wheeling Jesuit (17-9, 14-8) entertains Davis & Elkins (8-18, 7-15) at 7:30 PM on Tuesday.
Charleston (18-8, 14-8) downed West Virginia State (10-18, 7-15) in the regular-season finale to garner the fifth seed. The two square off at Charleston on Tuesday at 7:30 PM in a first-round game.
Shepherd earned the No. 6 spot after finishing the season at 15-11 overall and 12-10 in the WVIAC. The Rams host Glenville State (12-15, 8-14) in the first round. Tip-off is slated for 7.00 PM on Tuesday.
Seton Hill (15-11, 12-10) took home the No. 7 seed and hosts No. 10 West Virginia Wesleyan (12-14, 9-13), which is fresh off a buzzer-beating win Saturday afternoon. The teams will take the court at 7.00 PM

WVIAC Announces Women’s Tournament Bracket - 2013
Glenville State secured the top seed in next week’s WVIAC Women’s Basketball Tournament and will have a first-round bye.
The Pioneers (26-2, 21-1) completed the regular season with 20 straight wins and will rest until Wednesday’s quarterfinal in the Civic Center.
GSC will play the 6:30 PM game of the quarterfinals.
Earlier in the week, West Liberty secured the second seed. The Hilltoppers completed the 2012-13 regular season with a mark of 19-7 overall and 17-5 against league play. WLU will host Ohio Valley (2-24, 2-20) at 7:30 PM on Monday in a first-round game.
Fairmont State completed the year with a 19-9 overall mark, including a 16-6 effort against conference opponents. The Falcons host Wheeling Jesuit (8-18, 5-17) at 7:30 PM on Monday.
Davis & Elkins (15-11, 14-8) secured a huge win in its regular-season finale and earned the No. 4 spot in the upcoming tournament. The Senators host Alderson-Broaddus (7-19, 6-16) at 6:30 PM on Monday.
Seton Hill earned the No. 5 seed after recording a win over Pitt-Johnstown Saturday afternoon. The Griffins (16-12, 13-9) entertain No. 12 Concord (7-21, 6-16) at 7 PM Monday evening.
With a win over its rival on Saturday, West Virginia State garnered the No. 6 spot in the tournament. The Yellow Jackets (13-13, 12-10) host the defending WVIAC Champion West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats (8-17, 7-15) Monday night at 7:00 PM.
Shepherd earned a huge win over West Liberty Thursday night, helping the Rams earn a first-round home game. SU (13-13, 12-10) hosts Bluefield State (13-12, 11-11) at 7:00 PM on Monday.

WVIAC Women’s Basketball: Lady Pioneers Down Concord 95-74
On Thursday, Charleston, Davis & Elkins, Fairmont State, Glenville State, Shepherd, West Liberty and West Virginia State all earned WVIAC women’s basketball wins.
Glenville State 95, Concord 74
Glenville State picked up a 95-74 victory over visiting Concord Thursday evening.
Ginny Mills poured in a game-high 33 points on 13-of-24 shooting from the field, including burying seven three-point buckets. She also contributed five boards for the Pioneers. Kenyona Simmons totaled 18 points and 10 rebounds while Ashleigh Fossett came off the bench to hit for 17 points. LaToya Hambrick netted 10 markers and Aesha Peters snagged a game-best 12 rebounds. Jessica Parsons tallied seven assists and six rebounds.
Rachel Artrip garnered 24 points and 11 rebounds to pace the Mountain Lions. Amanda Smith chipped in 12 points while Stephanie Wagner posted 10 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds in a near triple-double performance. Leslie Mack also contributed 10 markers.

West Liberty outscored Pitt-Johnstown 17-9 in the five-minute extra session, picking up a 98-90 road win.
The Lady Cats led by 14 at the break but the Hilltoppers hit 59.4% of their shots in the second half to force the extra session. In the overtime period, WLU drained all five shots from the floor and seven-of-eight attempts from the charity stripe for the victory.
The Hilltoppers’ Hillary Southworth a WLU season-best and career-high 43 points, including 33 after halftime. She drained 18-of-31 shots from the field in addition to grabbing eight rebounds, totaling four assists and four steals. Meghan Wiseman added 24 points while Jasmin Kiley went for 10. Jordan Stacey pulled down 11 boards.
Nicole Carman and Kaitlynn Fratz scored 24 points apiece for UPJ. Kelsey Sleighter and Inaya Stephenson netted 10 points each while Rachel Johnson snagged a team-best nine rebounds. Grace Hyland dished out five assists while Fratz chipped in four.
Fairmont State 72, Seton Hill 71
For the second time this season, Fairmont State knocked off Seton Hill by a mere point. The Falcons earned a 72-71 road win over the Griffins Thursday.
Tied at 70 with 57 seconds left, Hailey Garrett drilled a bucket with 40 ticks remaining, giving FSU a 72-70 lead. After a foul by Garrett, Paige Alviani hit a free throw but missed the second, allowing the visitors to come away with the win.
In the win, Briana Welch recorded a team-best 16 points. Emily Lohr added 15 points while Garrett and Snyder each scored 14. Garrett added a team-best 10 rebounds and three blocks while Snyder garnered eight assists and seven rebounds. Tiffany Nicholson chipped in nine points.
Alviani scored a game-high 21 points to go along with seven rebounds for the Griffins. Katie Gattuso totaled 20 points and pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds. Kelly Brennan and Tiara Stossel each recorded nine points.

Davis & Elkins scorched the nets, hitting 61.9% of its shots en route to a 67-49 win over Alderson-Broaddus.

Jessi Cowden had a spectacular performance, recording 15 points and 13 rebounds, for the Golden Eagles. Chrissy Keir went for 15 points and dished out a game-high six assists while LeAnne Ross netted 15 points. Tianni Kelly narrowly missed a double-double with eight points and 11 rebounds.
Jaila Bryant paced the Cardinals with 15 points. Jamie Sobczak registered 10 points and nine rebounds while Taylor Lubinsky hit for eight points. She also had three steals. Kelsey Pacholke snagged eight rebounds.

West Virginia State hit three foul shots in the final five seconds to secure the 68-65 road win at Bluefield State.
Jasmine Blanton led a balanced attack for the Yellow Jackets, scoring a team-best 16 points. Kashauna Cook went for 15 points and snared eight rebounds while Jordan Brock contributed 11 points and five boards. Asia Greenleaf grabbed eight off the glass.

Shepherd earned a 74-58 victory over visiting West Virginia Wesleyan Thursday evening.
The Rams evened their record at 13-13 on the year with the win. Emily Daniel scored a game-high 18 points while Alex Tamez contributed 15 points and a game-best six assists. She also registered five steals. Gabby Flinchum had 12 points and nine rebounds to go along with four blocks.

Lamar Mallory garnered 18 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double in the win. DJ Blanks added 15 points and seven boards while Kevin Gray and Jamel Morris hit for 11 points apiece. Morris also distributed six assists.
Damien Tunstalle recorded a game-high 25 points for the Mountain Lions. Mike Boyd accounted for 16 points while Jordan Davis netted 11. Cam Shannon had eight markers while Thomas Brown pulled down seven rebounds.

West Liberty drained 17 three-point shots en route to a 98-83 road win at Pitt-Johnstown.
Alex Falk scored a game-high 32 points to go along with seven rebounds, seven assists and five steals – all of which were team bests. Chris Morrow netted 18 points while Seger Bonifant had 11 off the bench. C.J. Hester chipped in 10 points while Tim Hausfeld added nine.
Nick Novak poured in a team-high 27 points in addition to distributing four assists for the Mountain Cats. Ian Vescovi had 17 points and Jordan Miller hit for 14 points. Miller also had five assists. Bill Luther netted 12 points.
The Hilltoppers drained 54.4% of their shots from the field, including 48.6% from downtown. UPJ made 56.6% of its attempts from the field, including 68.8% from the three-point stripe.
Bluefield State 96, West Virginia State 95 (OT)
Bluefield State’s Treon Claiborne hit a lay-up with 10 seconds remaining and Avery Holliday snagged a rebound in the closing seconds to secure the Big Blues’ 96-95 overtime win over West Virginia State.
Roy Cooper erupted for 34 points and eight rebounds for the victors. He drained eight three-point shots in the game. Claiborne added 20 points and 13 rebounds for a double-double performance while Vincent Rogers scored 17. Claiborne also distributed seven assists. Holliday netted 11 points to go along with six boards.
Jalen Walker led a balanced attack for the Yellow Jackets with a team-high 19 points. Anton Hutchins added 18 points and Stephen Thompson totaled 15. David Ford added 12 points while pulling down a team-best eight rebounds. Juan Johnson and Kendrick Ward had 11 points apiece.
Wheeling Jesuit 86, Charleston 80 (2 OT)
Wheeling Jesuit outlasted Charleston in a double-overtime contest by an 86-80 count Thursday evening.
In the second overtime session, the Cardinals’ Ben Siefert hit a jumper 33 seconds in and the team never looked back, leading by as many as seven in the final period.
Rookie Justin Fritts poured in 25 points and had 10 steals while playing 47 minutes in the win. Siefert narrowly missed a double-double with 18 points and nine assists to go along with six rebounds. Recardo Gaddy had 19 points and Eric Siefert totaled 14. Joe Prati snagged 10 rebounds to go along with four blocks.
Evan Faulkner scored a team-best 22 points and distributed six assists for the Golden Eagles. Robbie Dreher chipped in 20 points and eight rebounds while Terrell Lipkins had 15 points and six assists. Xavier Humphrey totaled 12 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double.
Alderson-Broaddus 90, Davis & Elkins 68
Alderson-Broaddus registered a 90-68 victory at Davis & Elkins Thursday evening.
Kurklin Bohanon erupted for 39 points and 11 rebounds for the Battlers. He canned seven three-point buckets and made 12-of-13 charity tosses. O’Dell Eargle added 12 points while Stuart Clark and Jonathan Ferguson netted eight each. Adam Kline snagged seven boards.
D’Quan Lynch amassed a team-high 18 points for the Senators. He also had six rebounds and six assists. Devin Miller scored 15 points while Josh Wamsley chipped in 10. Shane Brown added eight points and Ante Cosic pulled down seven rebounds.
Seton Hill 76, Fairmont State 73
Seton Hill led by as many as 15 points on multiple occasions and held off a furious Fairmont State rally to win 76-73.
The Griffins used a balanced scoring attack while hitting 54.5% of their shots to net the victory.
Max Kenyi and Malachi Leonard scored 17 points apiece for SHU. Lenjo Kilo added 11 markers while Kameron Taylor and Oliver McGlade totaled eight each. Kilo pulled down a team-best six rebounds while David Windsor registered four steals.
Malik Stith poured in a game-high 27 points for the Falcons. Brendan Cooper had a solid all-around game, amassing 12 points and a game-best 13 rebounds while Isaac Thornton chipped in 12 points. Isaiah Hill had nine points and eight boards.
Shepherd 105, West Virginia Wesleyan 91
Shepherd drilled 56.9% of its shots en route to a 105-91 win over West Virginia Wesleyan.
Chad Moore drained 13 field goals and 11 charity tosses for a game-high 39 points. He also totaled five rebounds and five assists. Brantley Osborne added 21 points while Sidney McCray chipped in 14. Marcus Pilgrim netted 11 while Austin Cunningham dished out a team-high 10 assists in just 17 minutes of work.
Kelsey Williams narrowly missed a double-double by totaling 23 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Chris Dewberry scored 17 points while Garrett Grantham netted 15. Raymond Warren accounted for 13 points and a game-high 12 assists. Caleb Ashley contributed 11 markers.

2012-13: WVIAC Week 16 Women’s Basketball Notes
This week, all 15 WVIAC teams are in action. Fourteen games are on the docket this week – and each one is a league battle.
Glenville State clinched the top spot in the WVIAC standings while West Liberty and Fairmont State should hold the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds heading into next week’s tournament.
Davis & Elkins will try and hold off Pitt-Johnstown and Seton Hill for the No. 4 seed while Shepherd, West Virginia State, Charleston and Bluefield State are all battling for a first-round home game.
West Virginia Wesleyan, Concord and Alderson-Broaddus are all separated by just a few power rating points while Wheeling Jesuit and Ohio Valley round out the current standings.
The conclusion of the regular season is Saturday with first-round games being hosted at the higher seed on Monday, February 25, 2013.

WVIAC Women’s Basketball: Lady Pioneers Clinch Regular-Season Title
Glenville State clinched the WVIAC regular-season championship and now stands at 19-1 in league play. Concord, Shepherd, West Virginia Wesleyan and Wheeling Jesuit also earned league victories. Fairmont State stepped out of conference to down Washington Adventist.
Glenville State 80, Charleston 66
Glenville State picked up an 80-66 victory at Charleston Monday evening to secure the WVIAC regular-season championship.
Kenyona Simmons drained nine-of-13 attempts from the floor en route to a 25-point performance. Ginny Mills added 23 points, including 15 that came from behind the three-point line. Kenyell Goodson and LaToya Hambrick each chipped in eight points.
In the loss, Tianni Kelly guided the Golden Eagles with a 13-point, 13-rebound performance. She and Chrissy Keir each distributed four assists. Nichole Perry connected for 13 points and Jessi Cowden chipped in nine.
West Virginia Wesleyan 49, Alderson-Broaddus 47
West Virginia Wesleyan held off Alderson-Broaddus in the closing minutes, taking a 49-47 victory.
The Bobcats were guided by Allie Browne’s 11-point, six-assist effort. Brittany Maxey totaled 10 points and a game-best 13 rebounds while Atavia Blake tallied 10 markers. Brittany Williams came off the bench to hit for eight points.
Leah Hurst led the Battlers with a game-high 20 points. She also grabbed 10 rebounds for a double-double. Amanda Peoples amassed 10 points and nine rebounds while Cayla Rhodes garnered eight points and nine boards.
Shepherd 73, West Liberty 70
In a back-and-forth tightly contested game, Shepherd netted the last three points of the game, helping the Rams post a 73-70 win at West Liberty.
With the scored tied at 70, Gabby Flinchum’s jumper off a pass from Rachel Johnson put SU ahead 72-70 with 25 ticks remaining. The Hilltoppers missed a jumper and Emily Daniel corralled the rebound. After four fouls, Flinchum hit the second free throw for the final margin.
Flinchum and Johnson netted 20 points apiece to earn team-high accolades. Flinchum narrowly missed a double-double with nine boards. Emily Daniel connected for 14 points and snagged eight rebounds. Alex Weakland registered three steals in the win.
WLU’s duo of Hillary Southworth and Meghan Wiseman each hit for 24 points to share game-high honors. Wiseman grabbed nine rebounds while Southworth totaled eight boards, six assists and six steals. Kierra Simpson came off the bench to score eight.
West Virginia State 93, Concord 89
West Virginia State held a double-digit second-half lead and fought off a furious rally by Concord to win 93-89.
The victors were paced by Jasmine Blanton’s game-high 27 points. Asia Greenleaf totaled 21 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double while Jordan Brock netted 15 markers. India Taste accounted for 10 points and six assists. WVSU hit 25 charity tosses in the game.
In the loss, Amanda Smith paced the team with 23 points. Tanisha Williams added 15 points while Rachel Artrip, Jacqueline Kestner and Katy Somerville all hit for 13 points. Kestner notched a double-double with 10 boards.
Wheeling Jesuit 66, Ohio Valley 64
Jaila Bryant’s jumper with one second remaining propelled Wheeling Jesuit to a 66-64 road win at Ohio Valley.
Despite Bryant’s heroics, the Cardinals’ Jamie Sobczak had a career night, totaling 20 points and grabbing a WVIAC season-best 20 rebounds. She also added three steals. Breanna Butler netted a game-high 24 points while Bryant accounted for 14. Butler registered a game-high four thefts.
Shelby Way totaled a team-best 19 points for the Fighting Scots. Jasmine Gibson amassed 12 points and eight rebounds while Kayla Parsley was just shy of another double-double effort, tallying eight points to go along with 14 rebounds.
Fairmont State 73, Washington Adventist 57
Fairmont State led wire-to-wire in a 73-57 win over Washington Adventist on Monday night at Joe Retton Arena. The Falcons (17-9) raced out to a 42-15 lead at halftime and never looked back en route to the victory.
Kaitlin Snyder led all players with 24 points. Hallie Gunnoe finished with 11 points and seven rebounds. Hailey Garrett pulled down a team-high eight rebounds to go with four points. Courtney Swiger hit two three-pointers on her way to seven points.
Washington Adventist (5-19) was led by 19 points from Angelica Nevarez. Vanesaa Rice added 18 points and eight rebounds in the loss. Jerria Brown-McDaniel pulled down a game-best nine rebounds.
Fairmont State opened the game on a 30-5 run after shooting a scorching 55% from the field in the opening half. FSU was able to stretch its lead to 42-15 at the break after holding the Washington Adventist to just 4-of-26 shooting (15%) in the opening half. The Falcons also held a 24-18 advantage on the glass and forced 14 Shock turnovers.
The Washington Adventist offense picked up in the second half hitting six three-pointers and shooting 44% in the game’s final 20 minutes. The Falcons were already well on their way to picking up the win, however, finally settling for the 73-57 victory in the end. In the game’s final minutes, reserves Kat Rohlfing and Hanna Gunnoe got in the scoring column.
WVIAC Men’s Basketball: Pioneers Fall to UC by Two
Charleston, Concord, West Liberty, West Virginia Wesleyan and Wheeling Jesuit all notched wins Monday evening.
Charleston 71, Glenville State 69
Charleston survived a late rally by Glenville State and a missed three-point shot at the buzzer to down the visitors 71-69.
Terrell Lipkins registered a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds for the Golden Eagles. Aleksander Kesic added 12 points as did Robbie Dreher. Dreher snagged nine rebounds while Fred Simpson grabbed eight boards.
In the loss, Lamont Cole poured in 20 points to go along with six rebounds off the bench in 31 minutes of action. Jamel Morris added 19 points while DJ Blanks totaled 13. Blanks also totaled four steals and three assists.

Cedric Harris erupted for a game-high 31 points to go along with five assists and four steals. Alex Falk connected for 23 points. Seger Bonifant came off the bench to net 22 points on eight-of-nine shooting from the field, including a six-of-seven effort from downtown. Shawn Dyer hit for 19 markers. C.J. Hester narrowly missed a double-double by posting nine points and a game-best 21 rebounds. The 21 boards marked the most ever by a player in the ASRC.
Chad Moore guided the Rams with a team-best 29 points in addition to his four blocks and two steals. Austin Cunningham garnered 22 points while Marcus Pilgrim connected for 15 points. Justin Fritts poured in a game-high 27 points for the Cardinals by netting 10-of-12 shots from the floor. Andre Harris came off the bench to post 21 points to go along with two blocks. Ben Siefert tallied 17 points and nine rebounds while Eric Siefert accounted for 13 points, seven rebounds and six assists.
Ashton Brown and David Sinickas posted 15 points apiece for the Fighting Scots. Mustafa Helal garnered a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds while Povilas Dambrauskas amassed 13 points and a game-best 12 boards. Brown also distributed four assists.
West Virginia Wesleyan 79, Alderson-Broaddus 76 (OT)
West Virginia Wesleyan sank two free throws with seven seconds remaining in overtime and forced Alderson-Broaddus to miss a three-point shot, allowing the Bobcats to post a 79-76 win.
Kelsey Williams scored a team-best 28 points and snagged a team-high eight rebounds for the Bobcats. Noah Cottrill and Raymond Warren each hit for 11 points in the win. Warren dished out five assists in the contest.
The Battlers were led by Kurklin Bohanon’s game-high 32 points, including 21 from behind the three-point line. Roy Brown added 15 points while O’Dell Eargle tallied seven points to go along with a game-best 10 rebounds.
Concord 81, West Virginia State 77
After West Virginia State pulled within two with 43 seconds remaining, Cam Shannon netted two free throws to secure the 81-77 win for Concord.
The Mountain Lions had a balanced scoring attack that was paced by Mike Boyd’s 17 points. He also dished out eight assists. Damien Tunstalle added 16 points and seven rebounds while Jordan Davis totaled 16 points and five boards. Shannon connected for 12 points in the win.
Anton Hutchins garnered 17 points for the Yellow Jackets while David Ford amassed 14. Raymon Austin tallied 11 points and 11 rebounds while Jalen Walker also went for 11 markers. Kendrick Ward totaled eight points and five assists.
WVIAC Women’s Basketball: No.16 Lady Pioneers Win On The Road as They Beat Shepherd 104-87
Glenville State moved within a win of clinching a first-round bye and the regular-season WVIAC women’s basketball championship. Concord, Davis & Elkins, Pitt-Johnstown, Seton Hill and West Liberty also garnered league victories Saturday.

Kenyona Simmons poured in a game-high 24 points while Ashleigh Fossett connected for 23 in the win. Ginny Mills hit for 11 points while Kenyell Goodson totaled 10. Jelena Elez and Tiffani Huffman chipped in nine apiece. Goodson and Mills registered four steals each.

West Liberty 72, Fairmont State 62
Meghan Wiseman scored a career-high 26 points and the West Liberty University women’s basketball team extended its late-season run with a 72-62 victory Saturday afternoon at Fairmont State’s Joe Retton Arena.
The visitors held Fairmont State to just 4 points over the final 10 minutes of the first half and closed out the opening period on a dazzling 22-4 run that sent the Black and Gold jogging off the court with a 33-20 lead.
Wiseman, a senior post, had nine of her 26 points in the first half but Liz Flowers added eight points, Southworth beat the defensive pressure for seven points and eight rebounds, and Emily Blevins added six points to account for all but three of the visitors’ first-half scoring.
West Liberty led by as many as 19 points midway through the second half after a pair of Wiseman free throws pushed the count to 50-31.
The Falcons tried to mount a comeback and were able to trim the margin as low as six points on several occasions but the Hilltoppers wouldn’t let them get any closer.
For the game, Southworth totaled 19 points and 11 rebounds while Flowers tallied 16 points in the win. Wiseman added seven rebounds in the contest while Blevins dished out a game-high five assists.
Kaitlin Snyder paced the Falcons with a team-best 17 points. Emily Lohr added 16 markers to go along with seven boards. Briana Welch chipped in 12 points while Hailey Garrett netted 10.
Davis & Elkins 79, Bluefield State 71
Davis & Elkins used a balanced scoring attack to net a 79-71 victory over Bluefield State Saturday afternoon.
Jorden Lykes accounted for a team-best 18 points as the Senators drained 61.2% of their shots from the field. Lykes also had seven boards. Beth Gribble added 16 markers while Page Turner accounted for 11 points and 11 assists. Alicia Lentz garnered 10 points off the bench. She also swatted four shots.
Shae Mebane led all scorers with 20 points for the Lady Blues. She also pulled down six rebounds. Jenaya Abernathy hit five-of-six shots for 13 points in just nine minutes of work off the bench while Andrea Hauser chipped in 11. Charity Harris shared game-high honors with 11 assists.
Pitt-Johnstown 74, Wheeling Jesuit 64
Pitt-Johnstown recorded a 74-64 road win at Wheeling Jesuit Saturday afternoon in a WVIAC match-up.
Nicole Carman had a huge day, accounting for 30 points and 10 rebounds – both of which were game highs. Kelsey Sleighter came off the bench to net 16 points on six-of-eight shooting, including a four-of-five effort from downtown. Kaitlynn Fratz totaled 13 points and dished out seven assists. UPJ drained 10-of-17 shots from downtown (53.8%).
Taneka Lewis guided the Cardinals with a team-best 13 points. Jaila Bryant connected for 12 points while registering six steals. Jamie Sobczak added 11 points, seven boards and six steals while Alex Anderson narrowly missed a double-double with nine points and eight rebounds.
Seton Hill 90, West Virginia Wesleyan 60
Seton Hill drained 52.2% of its shots from the field, helping the squad post a 90-60 win over West Virginia Wesleyan.
Katie Gattuso led all scorers with 24 points. She also earned a double-double by posting 10 rebounds. Paige Alviani connected for 20 points while Kelly Brennan tallied 15 markers. Meghan Mastroianni had a solid all-around game with eight points, 12 rebounds and six steals.
The Bobcats were guided by a trio of student-athletes. Atavia Blake, Kerry Conroy and Danesha Richardson all hit for 14 points in the contest. Brittany Maxey guided the squad with a team-best 10 rebounds to go along with a team-high five assists.
Concord 70, Ohio Valley 66
Concord drained 23 free throws, helping the team earn a hard fought 70-66 win over visiting Ohio Valley.
Stephanie Wagner led the victors with a team-high 18 points and dished out six assists in 39 minutes of work. Amanda Smith connected for 14 points while Jacqueline Kestner totaled 11 markers. Smith and Rachel Artrip each grabbed five rebounds.
The Fighting Scots were guided by Jasmine Gibson’s game-best 27 points. Gibson hit 12-of-20 shots from the field while also grabbing seven rebounds. Kayla Parsley scored just 10 points, but snared a game-best 15 boards. Saira House distributed a game-high eight assists.

West Liberty 103, Fairmont State 99
The No. 3-ranked West Liberty locked up its fourth straight West Virginia Conference title Saturday afternoon, holding off Fairmont State, 103-99, before a regional television audience at a jam-packed Joe Retton Arena.
Coach Jim Crutchfield’s Hilltoppers (24-1, 18-1) never trailed in the late-season showdown between the WVIAC’s top two teams, building double-digit leads in each half and holding off a late comeback by the Falcons (18-6, 16-4) with clutch foul shooting down the stretch.
Cedric Harris helped West Liberty come firing out of the blocks as the junior guard had 11 points on the board before the game was five minutes old, propelling the visitors to a 16-6 lead with 15:16 still showing on the first half clock.
The lead stayed at or near double-figures for most of the first half as the Hilltoppers blistered the nets at a 64% pace to take a 50-40 advantage into the locker room at the break.
Behind strong play by Isaac Thornton and Malik Stith in the second half, the Falcons began chipping away at the deficit.
Thornton, who had scored 18 points in the first half to keep the hosts within range, teamed with Stith to fuel an extended surge by FSU.
The Falcons finally cut the lead to 64-62 on a Thornton three-pointer with 12:09 remaining, but the Hilltoppers quickly responded.
Freshman Seger Bonifant – who saw extended minutes with senior Chris Morrow battling foul problems for most of the game – stopped the bleeding with a pair of free throws before Shawn Dyer and Harris drained back-to-back three-pointers to restore a double-digit lead, 72-62, with 10:37 to go.
West Liberty took its biggest lead, 83-69, when Dyer split the defense for a layup with 6:26 remaining.
Trailing, 92-85, heading into the final two minutes, FSU was forced to foul to stop the clock and the Hilltoppers closed out the win by going 11-of-12 from the line in the last 1:35.
The Hilltoppers shot 59% (30-of-51) from the floor and made a staggering 61% (11-of-18) of their three-point attempts. The visitors also held their own at the charity stripe, cashing in 80% (32-of-40) from the foul line.
Harris finished with 25 points while Alex Falk added 21 before fouling out. Dyer came off the bench for 20 points while Bonifant made the most of his extended minutes with 17 points. Morrow finished with 11 points and 6 rebounds despite being limited to just 19 minutes.
Thornton scored 26 points in the second half to finish with a WVIAC season-high 44 points and Stith added a career-high 28 points as the Falcon tandem combined for 44 of FSU’s 59 second-half points.
Davis & Elkins 88, Bluefield State 75
D’Quan Lynch’s triple-double paced Davis & Elkins past Bluefield State by an 88-75 count Saturday.
Lynch registered the fifth triple-double in the WVIAC this season. He amassed 28 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists – all of which were game-high efforts – in just 32 minutes of work. Devin Miller added 20 points while Shane Brown (14) and Igor Premasunac (12) also reached double figures. Josh Wamsley swatted five shots.
Treon Claiborne barely missed a double-double by posting 24 points and nine rebounds for the Big Blues. Roy Cooper totaled 15 points and eight boards while Ryan Braxton and Avery Holliday each went for 10 points in the loss.
Wheeling Jesuit 81, Pitt-Johnstown 80
Joe Prati drained a three-point bucket with 2:02 left, giving Wheeling Jesuit the lead for good in the 81-80 win over Pitt-Johnstown.
After Nick Novak pulled the Mountain Cats within one at 79-78, Justin Fritts hit a jumper to push the margin to three with 55 seconds remaining. Neither team could score again until Noah Hartung put back a missed three-point shot with one second remaining for the final score.
Prati scored a game-high 23 points and grabbed six boards in the victory. Ben Siefert had a huge all-around game with 14 points, 12 assists and seven rebounds. Fritts also connected for 14 points while Recardo Gaddy and Andre Harris netted 12 and 10, respectively.
Jordan Miller scored a team-best 20 points for UPJ. He also snagged six rebounds. Nick Novak narrowly missed a double-double with 19 points and nine assists while Andrew Cressler amassed 15 points and seven boards.
Seton Hill 60, West Virginia Wesleyan 56
Seton Hill broke a tie with a 7-3 spurt over the last 3:45 to pick up a 60-56 victory over West Virginia Wesleyan.
David Windsor scored a game-high 17 points for the Griffins on a seven-of-12 effort from the floor. Malachi Leonard barely missed a double-double with 11 points and nine boards while Nate Perry connected for 11 markers. Max Kenyi chipped in nine points while Lenjo Kilo totaled eight boards.
Kelsey Williams had a solid game for the Bobcats, tallying 16 points and 13 rebounds. He also had both of WVWC’s blocks. Chris Dewberry accounted for 14 points on five-of-eight shooting off the bench while Noah Cottrill distributed five assists.
Concord 71, Ohio Valley 60
With the help of a strong second half, Concord registered a 71-60 victory over visiting Ohio Valley Saturday afternoon.
Damien Tunstalle led the victors with a 16-point, 10-rebound performance. Jordan Davis totaled 14 points and a game-best 14 rebounds while Eric Bailey and Cam Shannon each hit for 12 points. Mike Boyd distributed six of the Mountain Lions’ 13 assists.
Osvaldas Gaizauskas poured in a game-high 19 points for the Fighting Scots while David Sinickas garnered 10 points. Austin Parker chipped in eight points while James Allen and Mustafa Helal each grabbed seven rebounds.
2012-13: WVIAC Week 15 Women’s Basketball Notes
This week, all 15 WVIAC teams are in action. Fifteen games are on the docket this week – and each one is a league battle.
On Thursday, Seton Hill hosts Shepherd as both are looking to secure home court advantage for the first round of the WVIAC Tournament. West Virginia State heads to Ohio Valley while Fairmont State hosts Alderson-Broaddus. Charleston entertains Bluefield State.
Saturday features six games involving WVIAC squads. The nation’s second leading scorer in Hillary Southworth and her Hilltoppers of West Liberty travel to Fairmont State to battle the Falcons and the reigning WVIAC Player of the Year in Kaitlin Snyder. The Fighting Scots hit the road to face Concord while the Lady Blues make the trek to Elkins to square off against the Senators. Seton Hill hosts West Virginia Wesleyan while Shepherd squares off against league-leading Glenville State. Pitt-Johnstown plays at Wheeling Jesuit.

West Virginia Wesleyan 87, Glenville State 73
West Virginia Wesleyan connected on 51% of its shots en route to an 87-73 win over Glenville State.
Caleb Ashley poured in a game-high 31 points. He hit 10-of-13 shots from the floor, including a five-of-eight effort from the three-point stripe. Ashley also drained six free throws. Kelsey Williams garnered 25 points and a game-best 17 rebounds. Williams also registered four steals. Chris Dewberry scored 10 points off the bench while Raymond Warren dished out five assists.
Jamel Morris scored a team-best 25 points for the Pioneers. Morris was perfect from the foul stripe, hitting all 12 free throws he attempted. Kevin Gray netted 16 points while Andy Dollman came off the bench to score 11. Dollman and Lamont Cole had three steals apiece.

West Liberty 95, Charleston 77
West Liberty broke open a close game with a 50-point second half and downed Charleston 95-77 Monday evening.
The Hilltoppers’ were paced by Alex Falk’s team-high 25 points. Falk also had six rebounds and four assists. Chris Morrow had a huge night, totaling 19 points and 14 rebounds in just 28 minutes of work. Shawn Dyer, Tim Hausfeld and C.J. Hester hit for 10 points apiece. Cedric Harris had just six points, but distributed six assists.
Quincy Washington led the Golden Eagles with a game-high 26 points. He hit seven-of-nine shots from the field but connected on 11-of-14 foul shots. Terrell Lipkins tallied 20 points while Robbie Dreher accounted for 12 points and nine rebounds.
WLU held a 43-31 advantage on the glass. The Hilltoppers hit 16 three-point shots.
Fairmont State 88, Pitt-Johnstown 73
Fairmont State used a run early in the second half and never looked back in a 88-73 win over Pitt-Johnstown on Monday night at Joe Retton Arena.
The Falcons got double-doubles from Isaiah Hill (21 points, 11 rebounds) and Isaac Thornton (12 points, 12 rebounds) in the winning effort. Thornton also handed out a game-high six assists for FSU. Brendan Cooper scored 12 and had seven rebounds and Chase Morgan came off the bench to chip in 10 points.
Pitt-Johnstown received a game-high 27 points to go with nine rebounds from Andrew Cressler. Nick Novak, the leading scorer in the conference, was held nine points below his average and finished with 13 points.
Fairmont State shot 46% from the field in the game, including a sizzling 57% in the second half, and out-rebounded UPJ 45-34. The Mountain Cats finished the game shooting 44% from the field. UPJ hit six three-pointers in the first 17 minutes of the game, but went the remaining 23 minutes without a make from behind the arc.
Pitt-Johnstown raced out to the early lead building a 13-point lead at 27-14 after a Novak three at the 8:50 mark. The Falcons roared back, though, scoring 10 of the next 12 points to cut it to 29-24 with 2:42 left in the half. Stith would later hit back-to-back shots in transition to tie it at 35-35 and a Morgan three would tie it again at 38-38 at the half.
Hill and Stith were key for the Falcons in the first half scoring 15 and 10 points, respectively. FSU forced Pitt-Johnstown into eight turnovers that turned into 10 points for the Falcons. UPJ shot 15-of-31 from the field in the first half, including 6-of-12 from behind the arc in a solid first half for the Mountain Cats.
Fairmont State took control of the game from the early moments in the second half out-scoring Pitt-Johnstown 18-6 in the six minutes to go ahead 54-44. The Mountain Cats would get no closer the rest of the way as the Falcons continued to pour it on in the second half and claim the 88-73 victory.
Alderson-Broaddus 80, West Virginia State 59
Alderson-Broaddus led the entire game en route to an 80-59 victory over West Virginia State.
Casey Ainslie led the victors with a game-high 18 points. O’Dell Eargle came off the bench to hit for 17 points to go along with eight rebounds. Adam Kline posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds while Malcolm Tatum dished out six assists.
Raymon Austin tallied 14 points and 11 rebounds for the Yellow Jackets. Anton Hutchins came off the bench to hit for 10 points while Stephen Thompson garnered seven points and six boards. Brandon Ross also had seven points.
Wheeling Jesuit 67, Seton Hill 62
Wheeling Jesuit overcame a two-point deficit at halftime and posted a 67-62 win over Seton Hill.
Justin Fritts paced the Cardinals with a team-high 17 points. He also recorded three steals. Recardo Gaddy connected for 14 points while Ben Siefert tallied 12 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Joe Prati chipped in 11 points and six boards. Eric Siefert grabbed six rebounds.
Oliver McGlade led the Griffins with a game-high 18 points. He hit six-of-11 three-point shots. David Windsor netted 11 points while Kameron Taylor registered seven points and a game-best 13 rebounds. Malachi Leonard narrowly missed a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds.
Concord 82, Davis & Elkins 74
Concord earned an 82-74 win over visiting Davis & Elkins Monday evening.
The Mountain Lions were paced by Jordan Davis’ 18-point, 10-rebound performance. Damien Tunstalle accounted for 14 points and eight boards while Thomas Brown came off the bench to hit for 13 markers. Mike Boyd dished out six assists.
D’Quan Lynch led the Senators with a game-high 23 points. He also dished out five assists. Devin Miller canned five three-point shots en route to a 21-point, eight-rebound effort. Ante Cosic netted 11 points off the bench.
Bluefield State 90, Ohio Valley 71
Bluefield State picked up a 90-71 victory over visiting Ohio Valley Monday evening.
Roy Cooper drained nine-of-12 shots, including a seven-of-eight effort from downtown en route to a 27-point performance in the win. Treon Claiborne narrowly missed a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds. Joseph Dawkins hit for 11 points while Vincent Rogers chipped in 10. Dawkins dished out a game-high six assists.
Jerry Macon Jr. guided the Fighting Scots with a team-best 20 points. Mustafa Helal and Austin Parker connected for 11 points apiece. Helal narrowly missed a double-double by grabbing nine rebounds. Povilas Dambrauskas added seven boards.
WVIAC Women’s Basketball: Lady Pioneers Down WVWC 97-72
On Monday, Alderson-Broaddus, Bluefield State, Davis & Elkins, Fairmont State, Glenville State, Seton Hill and West Liberty notched WVIAC women’s basketball victories.
Glenville State 97, West Virginia Wesleyan 72
Glenville State canned 16 three-point shots en route to a 97-72 win at West Virginia Wesleyan.
Ginny Mills came off the bench to hit nine three-point shots en route to a 31-point performance for the Pioneers. Kenyona Simmons connected on five baskets for 14 points while LaToya Hambrick netted 12 points. Kenyell Goodson scored 10 points. Aesha Peters grabbed a team-best seven rebounds. Jelena Elez distributed 10 assists and had five steals.
Atavia Blake registered a double-double with a team-high 14 points to go along with 10 rebounds. Brittany Williams scored 13 points while Allie Browne netted 12. Brittany Maxey and Danesha Richardson grabbed 10 rebounds apiece. Maxey dished out seven assists and had four steals.

Fairmont State 68, Pitt-Johnstown 41
After being tied at halftime, Fairmont State used a big second half to defeat Pitt-Johnstown 68-41 on Monday night at Joe Retton Arena.
FSU was led by Kaitlin Snyder’s 21 points and eight rebounds. Hailey Garrett added 18 points and Tiffany Nicholson scored 12 for the Falcons. Emily Lohr scored three and added a team-high nine rebounds. Hallie Gunnoe scored eight points and chipped in eight rebounds.
Fairmont State held the league’s second-leading scorer, Kaitlynn Fratz, scoreless for the first time in her career. The Mountain Cats got 13 points from Nicole Carman and 10 points and seven rebounds from Inaya Stephenson.
The Falcons shot 44% from the field and limited Pitt-Johnstown to just 26% shooting. FSU also held the advantage on the glass out-rebounding UPJ 46-37.
Fairmont State started quickly in the first half and grabbed an 18-6 lead after the first nine minutes of action, but went cold over the next eight minutes making one basket during that span. UPJ used that time to get back into the game and tie the score at 23-23 with 3:41 to go. Snyder hit a running layup as time expired in the first half to tie the score at 28-28 at the break.
With the score tied at 33-33, Fairmont State ripped off an 20-3 run over six minutes seize control of the game and take a 53-36 lead with 10:13 to go. Snyder accounted for nine points during that span and Garrett added six. The Falcons continued to stretch their lead the rest of the way to pick up the convincing victory.
West Liberty 88, Charleston 64
Reigning WVIAC Player of the Week Hillary Southworth erupted for a game-high 34 points, helping the Hilltoppers to an 88-64 win over Charleston.
Southworth drained 11-of-18 shots from the floor and buried nine-of-11 charity tosses. She also pulled down seven rebounds. Liz Flowers totaled 13 points to go along with five assists and five blocks. Meghan Wiseman totaled 11 points and pulled down a game-high eight rebounds.
Jessi Cowden led the Golden Eagles with a team-high 19 points. She also snagged a team-high seven rebounds. Nichole Perry garnered 11 points while Tianni Kelly chipped in 10. Kelly also had a team-best four assists.
WLU canned 51.7% of its shots from the floor. The squad established a school record with 16 blocks.
Seton Hill 70, Wheeling Jesuit 52
Seton Hill drained 52.8% of its shots from the field, helping the team post a 70-52 road win at Wheeling Jesuit.
Katie Gattuso led the victors with a game-high 23 points to go along with a game-best 11 rebounds. She hit 10-of-14 field goals. Paige Alviani netted 20 points and dished out six assists. Tiara Stossel contributed 12 markers. Clare Berenato and Meghan Mastroianni pulled down seven boards apiece.
Breanna Butler totaled a team-best 20 points for the Cardinals. She connected on seven-of-10 shots from the floor, including a five-of-six effort from the three-point line. Jamie Sobczak accounted for 15 points while Jaila Bryant came off the bench to dish out five assists.
Alderson-Broaddus 52, West Virginia State 49
Alderson-Broaddus led by eight points at halftime and held off West Virginia State 52-49 Monday evening.
Amanda Peoples led the victors with 13 points. She also grabbed seven rebounds. Cayla Rhodes narrowly missed a double-double with 10 points and nine boards while Nautica Davis amassed 10 markers. The Battlers made 12-of-14 foul shots, which proved to be the difference in the contest.
Jasmine Blanton and Kashauna Cook shared game-high honors by accounting for 14 points each for the Yellow Jackets. Asia Greenleaf totaled nine points and seven rebounds to go along with three assists. India Taste had four steals.
Davis & Elkins 69, Concord 61
Davis & Elkins earned a 69-61 victory at Concord Monday evening in a WVIAC contest.
Ashley Bowles came off the bench to post a game-high 18 points in the win. She also grabbed nine rebounds. Alicia Lentz totaled 12 points while Amy Turner garnered 10 points. Jorden Lykes accounted for eight points and 10 boards in just 17 minutes of action.
Stephanie Wagner posted a game-best 18 points for the Mountain Lions. She also dished out five assists. Katy Somerville accounted for 14 points while Rachel Artrip scored 10 points while grabbing seven rebounds.
Bluefield State 71, Ohio Valley 61
Shae Mebane poured in a game-high 25 points and snagged 11 rebounds, helping the Lady Blues to a 71-61 win over Ohio Valley.
Mebane paced BSC in points, rebounds and steals (three). Charity Harris amassed 10 points while LaWanna Gravely totaled 10 rebounds. Harris dished out five assists. The Lady Blues hit 20 free throws in the game.
Kayla Parsley guided the Fighting Scots with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Jasmine Gibson came off the bench to hit for 12 points while Saira House and Shelby Way netted 10 points each. Way had six assists and four steals – both of which were game highs.
