Gilmer County 4-H Camp 2009

From June 21 to June 25, 2009, 64 campers and many adults enjoyed the annual Gilmer County 4-H Camp that took place at the Gilmer County Recreation Center.

This year’s camp theme was “4-H Camp Meets Hollywood.” Campers had the opportunity to participate in 25 different classes during 3 periods throughout the day.

image

The campers also engaged in tribal sports, tribal meetings, swimming, and assemblies.  Assembly guests for the week included:
The Stardust Dancers on Sunday
Susan Sullivan from WBOY on Monday
Bil Lepp, one of West Virginia’s top “liars,” on Tuesday
Wednesday’s activities included the annual talent show in which many local youth displayed their outstanding abilities.
Thursday was the annual field day which consisted of a newly introduced game, “Banana Biggie,’” at Gilmer County 4-H Camp.

Each night was concluded with a Council Circle and the sounds of camp spirit echoing in the hills.

On Tuesday evening, we were delighted to invite individuals and organizations who donate to the Gilmer County 4-H Leaders Association to eat dinner with us at camp. We had 17 individuals attend and they were treated to dinner with the chiefs and sagamores and a slideshow of pictures from the first two days of camp.

The two Extension Camping Instructors (ECIs) for the week were Emily Shaffer from Tucker County and Amanda Moles from Wood County. Emily was the instructor of Tribal Leadership and Pre-Charting, while Amanda instructed Camp 101 and Charting Class throughout the week. Receiving their Charting pins this year were Brandon Bain, Alea Hinterer, and Linda Pennebaker.  How! How! to these three fine 4-H members!
