CommunityConcerns™: What if the Law Enforcers Break the Law?

image

By now everyone is aware of Mr. Mickey Metz, the current Sheriff of Gilmer County and the candidate for Gilmer County Magistrate.

We know he had said he always had a GED degree and failed to show the proof.

We also know that he presented the following document to the Gilmer County Clerk’s Office as his proof of eligibility for his candidacy. A candidate running for the office of magistrate, according to WV’s current law, must possess a GED or a High School Diploma.

image

We know as well Mr. Metz obtained his online diploma on November 21, 2011, by paying a fee and answering a few questions. According to Better Business Bureau (BBB), the school is not Legitimate and has a score of ‘F’.

Without getting into too much detail, We know Mr. Metz refuses to answer any questions calling it his policy to never answer any question, refuses to openly show his credentials, but we have heard Mr. Metz calling the FAKE HIGH SCHOOL, an internationally accepted school. And we can go on and on…..

But did you know Mr. Metz has been actively involved in coaching at the high school level?

image

Did you know that according to West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission (WVSSAC) and West Virginia Department of Education, you must have a coaching certificate to be able to coach at this level?

Here are the requirements according to WVSSAC:

What does an individual have to do to be able to coach if they are not a certified teacher?

A.  ASEP Coaches Education Program - Complete our 14 hour course with a WVSSAC instructor and pass all 3 tests with a minimum score of 80%.

B.  Local School Board approval (must be a high school graduate or GED) and must be done each year.

C.  Background Check - Fingerprint.

D.  Make application with the WV State Department of Education after completing the above (A-C).  The application (form 39) is available at your local Board of Education and must be done each year.

Does an individual have to take the entire course at designated site to receive the authorized certified status?

YES. Fourteen hours of course work must be completed at the designated site with a WVSSAC instructor, and all three tests must be passed (online) with a minimum score of 80.

Does an individual who is not a professional educator have to take the WVSSAC Coaches Education Program courses before they begin coaching?

YES. All course work, testing, and WV State Department authorization must be completed prior to assuming any coaching responsibilities.

If an individual takes the WVSSAC Coaches Education Program courses and receives a WVSSAC certificate after completing the test requirement, how often must he/she retake the WVSSAC Coaches Education courses?

Course retakes are not necessary; however, the WV State Department of Education authorization to coach is only issued on a yearly basis and must be renewed each year. Coaches must complete form 39 and have local Board approval each year.

Now you should also know:

Mr. Metz DID NOT HAVE any high school degree or GED in all his coaching career at the high school including the recent season.

WVSSAC gave him the certificate without any proof.

Gilmer County High School Principals and The Gilmer County Superintendents, as well as the Gilmer County Board of Education ALL failed to make sure Mr. Metz was qualified and met the requirements to be a coach.

At what conclusion should a person arrive?

•  Mr. Metz has never been qualified to be a coach?

•  Mr. Metz IS NOT qualified to be a magistrate?

•  Mr. Metz HAS LIED his way and is taking advantage of the system?

•  Can we forget the Fred Hill Case and his immediate statement of ‘No Foul Play’?

•  What about the case of Mr. Doug Morris’ accident when he stood looking at his car without checking to see who was in the accident and waited for his deputy to figure it out?

•  Does Mr. Metz believe ‘Honesty Is The Best Policy’?

•  Have we had a Sheriff who has lied his way for the past 8-years as a sheriff?

•  Have we had a coach who has lied about his qualifications since [2000]*, at least?

•  Is he really fit to be a magistrate who is to seek the truth?

•  And finally, why do those who are supposed to be the guardian of law allow this to happen?

Court Ruling Strikes Down WVSSAC Rule

image

Public and private schools should be treated equally.

That was the reasoning behind Mon County Circuit Court Judge Russell Clawges ruling striking down a WVSSAC transfer rule that required students transferring from public to private schools to sit out a year of athletics while transfers to public schools could play immediately.

Robert Konchesky challenged the rule when his daughter was declared ineligible after transferring from University High School to Trinity Christian School.

Clawges told the WVSSAC it had two options, it could rule all transfer students ineligible for grant temporary eligibility to Konchesky’s daughter.

Clawges did not set a date for when the WVSSAC must make a decision.

G-LtE™: We the People Have the Power If We Have the Will

image

In the Gilmer County High School pedophilia scandal and cases involving teachers and coaches, many wonder how the perpetrators get away with the crimes for so long and how the sexual assaults on children have been ignored by the principal for years.

Reportedly, teachers have seen the assaults but looked the other way. None of the other students would go to any victim’s aid fearing retaliations from the principal or assistant principal.

The administration has kept everyone defenseless and quiet, allowing some teachers and coaches to prey on the students unchecked.

No one reports the abuse, mostly because they fear the principal and the corruption in law enforcement and the legal system in Gilmer County, WV.

Obviously, it is hard to know what to do, and for students it always seemed easier to let it go.

It has happened repeatedly, whether they are teachers, coaches or Gilmer County Schools officials.

Most of us have had that teacher at one point in our youth who made a significant impact on our lives. The person who instilled something no other teacher could, whether they forced us to use our brains in ways we never imagined or simply became our friends; we will never forget them.
But then there is the teacher, coach who makes a mark in a different way, a teacher or coach so wonderful that students love attending his/her class/team just so they could daydream about his/her embarking on a journey down statutory rape lane with them.

The sad part is good people — because of friendships — become paralyzed by inaction, giving wrongdoers an open playground.

The crimes only get worse if not stopped.

But who is going to stop them?

The Sheriff who is part of the crime?

The prosecutor who doesn’t take time to properly research a case?

The principal who thinks all of these behaviors are normal?

The Superintendent who cannot make a decent decision on his own?

The State Police who are controlled by the elite?

The politicians who caused the school system takeover for the wrong reasons?

The state board of education who gave in to politicians and the elite?

The corruption is deep, but we the people have the power to end the madness if we have the will.

Titan’s Sydney Pettit Earns First-Team All-State Volleyball

image

Senior setter Natalie McVey, who helped guide Wirt County to its eighth state championship, was honored as the captain of the Class A all-state volleyball team announced Monday by the West Virginia Sports Writers Association.

A four-year starter and a three-year setter for the Tigers, McVey finished her last varsity match with 45 assists as Wirt County topped rival Williamstown to win the small school state crown for the first time since 2008.

“For a setter to get this recognition is great,‘’ said Tiger Coach Janet Frazier of McVey, who served at 96%, had more than 1,100 assists this fall and was picked as the Little Kanawha Conference’s Player of the Year.

“Natalie worked hard this year, not only to get the hitters the ball where they could do something with it, but she worked on the mechanics of setting and wanted to do it correctly. It helped her stats she had five different hitters to go to at any time and good passing from the back row.‘’

Two players earned repeat first team honors this season - seniors Mackenzie Polen of Charleston Catholic and Liz Flowers of Williamstown.

Polen, a key cog on Charleston Catholic’s back-to-back state title runs in 2009 and 2010, had 756 downed spikes this year and more than 2,200 for her career. She also produced 89 blocks, 93 aces and nearly 400 digs for the state semifinalists.

Flowers had 15 kills and 25 blocks in the title match versus Wirt County and tallied more than 300 kills this season while averaging close to five blocks a match.

Buffalo senior Hannah Boyer also made the All-State first team. Boyer, who received more than a third of all serves from opposing teams, was a 94-percent server, surpassed 200 kills, 125 digs and 40 aces.

Boyer’s Buffalo teammate, junior Courtney Persinger, made the All-State second team.

McVey was joined by Wirt senior teammate Kaity Bunch on the first team unit. Bunch, considered an “excellent back row player’‘ by her coach, registered more than 300 downed spikes and was a 90% hitter for the Tigers.

Greater Beckley Christian was represented by senior Kara Arvon. Able to do it all on the court, Arvon had close to 400 kills, better than 300 digs, 150 blocks and 50 aces in her final year for the Crusaders.

The rest of the Class A All-State first team were seniors - Trinity’s Kayla Huckaby, Gilmer County’s Sydney Pettit, Dominique Craft of Paden City and Pendleton County’s Morgan Keplinger.

CommunityConcerns™: If You Know You Won’t Be Punished for Bad Behavior, Why Not Do It!!!

image

The Gilmer County Volleyball Team and Head Coach Crystal Metz along with her Assistant Coach Mickey Metz traveled to Charleston, WV to participate in the State Tournament on Thursday, November 10, 2011.

The state tournament started on Friday, November 11, 2011.

According to several reports, complaints, and concerns received by the Gilmer Free Press, the Volleyball Tournament for the Lady Titans was not just about Volleyball for those in charge!

Reports indicate the Gilmer Head Coach had an engagement party on the evening of the tournament leading to a state of intoxication.

Of course it takes two to have an engagement. Complaints indicate the Titan Coach’s fiancé / very intoxicated boyfriend was hitting on the underage volleyball team girls.

According to sources, he attempted to pull down the girls pants, hid in their bathroom, and walked in on them while they were in the bathroom.

He also chased the girls in the hallway.  He reportedly gave two girls wedgies, one in the front and one in the back.

Further details of unbecoming behavior cannot be revealed at this time because it is not fit for publication.

The Community Concerns:

•  Is the conduct of the Volleyball team’s coach acceptable?

•  If the boyfriend stayed in the room with the coach were school funds used to pay for him?

•  Where were the Chaperons? [According to reports, some chaperones got drunk as well.]

•  Where was Mickey Metz, the Gilmer County Sheriff and assistance coach?

•  Who was protecting the underage girls?

•  Why did this happen at a school funded event?

•  Why is the Head Coach still teaching even younger kids?

•  Why have we had so many violations at Gilmer County High School in the past 3-4 years, leading to no punishment and/or cover-ups?

•  Why do the administrators who continuously tolerate and/or cover up the unacceptable behaviors continue to have their job?

•  When is enough enough?

•  Mr. Blankenship, Superintendent; Mrs. Butcher, Principal; Mr. Chambers, Assistant Principal; are these actions acceptable? What have you done about it? We need to know. We are tired of hearing “this is a personnel matter and cannot comment on it”.

•  Finally, what is the WV State Board of Education who made our local Board powerless doing about these actions under their umbrella?

CommunityConcerns™: Should BE THANKS, But It Is NO THANKS

image

The Gilmer Free Press has received multiple concerns from the teachers, staff, and community members regarding the latest decision made by the Gilmer County Principal.

Following is the summary of over 50 concerns:

In the analysis of Gilmer County’s performance using data from U.S. Department of Education on The Gilmer Free Press on 09.12.11 : CommunityConcerns™: Highest Praises to Gilmer County’s Elementary Schools, But GCHS?

We can easily see the county’s raking is 14th among West Virginia’s 55 counties just because of the performance of our Elementary Schools.

Had it not been because of the declining performance at the high school in past 3 years, Gilmer County would have been ranked higher.

Again many thanks go to our Elementary Schools.

It is an undeniable fact that the performance has decreased at the High School not because of the faculty and staff, but only due to bad leadership and irrational demands.

But what type of thanks out Elementary Schools get from the High School?

This is the example:

image

This is very upsetting to the affected personnel because “A Legitimate Gilmer County Board of Education” had approved the privilege to be different.

But apparently it is now OK for the High School Principal to just take it upon herself to change this?

Is she trying to make up and pay for the fine of about $2,000.00 imposed on Gilmer County High School by WVSSAC because she did not follow the correct procedures when Gilmer forfeited the game against Wirt?

Or is it because now she has all the power to do what she wants against the will of the people of Gilmer County and their representatives..

We are against this decision and we feel it should be reversed by the imposed superintendent Blankenship.
