Heavy rain part of the forecast through Friday morning

The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for several central and south central West Virginia counties through Friday afternoon.

The watch area includes Kanawha, Calhoun, Doddridge, Clay, Braxton, Gilmer, Lewis, Harrison, Taylor, Upshur, Barbour, Wayne, Cabell, Mason, Jackson, Wood, Pleasants, Tyler, Lincoln, Putnam, Roane, Wirt and Ritchie counties.

According to the NWS, some parts of the watch area could receive 2.5 inches of rain or more from the system. The first round of heavy rain is expected around midday Wednesday.

As the rain continues into Thursday, residents need to watch out for flooded roads especially along streams and creeks and in poor drainage areas.
