Yes we can go to state, strike, you name it. But in a civil society citizens expect their elected officials to take care of matters at hand in a timely fashion. Mr. Bennett and every board of education members have known about the problems at high school for a long time. In their defense, in talking or discussing matters with Mrs. Butcher more likely they cannot get a word in edge wise, because she is, loud, rude, and disrespectful. But none of these should keep them from doing their job and do what is right. They need to fix this problem if they want the support of the people. As for Mrs. Butcher, she should have the dignity to respect the will of the students, teachers and people and resign. If she claims she wants what is best for students then she needs to show it. It is has been so long since the issues have been brought up, and looks like the matters are getting worse and not going away. She has dragged her family issues to public enough, as well. Mrs. Butcher it is YOU who can put an end to this.

With good ole Braxton County being home to GoMart you would think that their gas prices would be cheapest in the state, but NOOOOOOOOOOO! Could someone take a few minutes and explain to be the gigantic differentiation in price within the state? I mean other than greed.

What is the problem? So many are unemployed but won’t apply for these jobs. Is society so conditioned to go to their mailbox and receive their “check” that they are too lazy to get up and get some gumption and be a productive member of society? Sure sounds like it!

Have been reading all the comments made by various citizens of this great county and most have been teachers.
They work with this rude obnoxious crazy person that is a so called Principal.
What is the Board of Education going to do about this? NOTHING!!!
They need to demand the resignation of Mrs. Butcher and Mr. Bennett since he sees no wrong in the way she handles things.
Are they two of a kind or is he too scared of her to?
Will they do it, probably not? The board is controlled just like a lot of others in the county. The ones with the power, money and no common sense will continue to rule the Gilmer County High School unless the parents demand the resignations and make sure it is enforced.
Charleston needs to hear about all this and the goings on at the school. They also should be made aware
that she says what her two daughters were photographed doing, sex, drinking and the other horrible pictures of them sexually, is normal for kids.
What king of a parent would tell their kids it is normal?
Shows she approves of their actions and she is just as crazy as her daughters.
And this person runs the High School? SCARY!
Parents and citizens we need to get them both out of there before something does happen to our kids.
Maybe the people should boycott the school, notify the TV stations of what is happening and this will get out and around and on the TV news, and it will be heard and maybe we will get LUCKY and get rid of her.
BOYCOTT, worth checking into.
And they want us to vote on a school bond or levy. Not me!!!

I read the same message over and over again on how bad the principal is..Why can’t you all get together and find a way to have her replaced?
Perhaps you have to take it to the state level?
Complaining evidently is not working, she is still there! Just a thought..

Many of our students at our high school are so confused that they don’t know what family values are any more. Can you blame them? They have a principal who thinks porn is ok and what her daughters have done is normal. Are we really setting a good example by letting her continue? What is the role of religion in this? Is it moral for a principal to participate in drinking parties with under aged students from her school? What kind of example are we setting?
One might ask, why the schools aren’t teaching the values our children need. The values that will work for them rather than against them. With our current high school principal we are doing the latter, working against them.

Everyday used to be a nice day!
I felt happy to be at school and teach.
I use to feel that way all the time!
That is until Mrs. Butcher became the principal at our school.
I hate to call this person a principal because that would imply a roll of leadership!
When the principal is here the entire staff looks depressed.
Our principal is not a leader but rather a dictator who only cares for 1 input! Hers!
So many teachers and staff have left the school!
Why doesn’t our principal understand how the chain of happiness works?
Happy teachers = happy students=happy parents= happy administrator…
Our superintendent and board members should notice who is at the bottom!

I feel the same way. Our principal only cares about what she wants. No one likes what she does. The morale at our campus is very low. She is so negative. A career I used to love is now just a J..O..B..

I listen to Lady Gaga. I love her and there is actually much more to her music than what you see on the video. Like a chic flick that entices men in to watching for the lesson, by appearing to be something else. A little lewd yes. A little gross yes. But get your Gaga where you can, right?

The GCHS principal always brags about all she has done for our school. If she is talking about abuse of money, bad atmosphere in work place, bad decisions, catering a few, being obnoxiously rude and mean, unfair, and bully she is right. She should resign to do us and gilmer county a favor. It is obvious she is not liked by anyone except 2 or 3 of her gophers. Can’t she get it? I like to list my name but can you imagine what could happen to me? She is already illegally reading our e-mails.

Elite and select students are always treated well. How about when our county’s prosecutors daughter who was hardly at school in her final year, missing many many days, was awarded perfect attendance by this principal! Imagine that! Shouldn’t rules apply the same for all students? This principal has failed to that.

Members of the journalism profession are as important to our society as doctors, lawyers, or members of any other profession and they deserve high levels of respect and admiration.
Admittedly, similar to any profession there are a few who need to be weeded out.
That should not cause us to loose sight that the overwhelming majority of journalists are honest, hard workers, focused on doing their utmost for their readership and totally devoted to bettering mankind as opposed to pushing personal agendas.
Furthermore, journalists have daunting responsibilities for forging the character of their readers.
One of their major responsibilities is to serve as role models in treating all they serve equally regardless of social status, wealth, or political connections.
Also, their personal behavior including how they act, who they associate with, what they say, and moral standards they convey for readers to emulate, are equally important.

“When a society deteriorates to the stage that any type of conduct is acceptable and moral standards are not part of its fabric, that is when the society collapses. That is why we need to encourage high moral standards and to have parents and role models who advocate for adherence to them. To simply pass immoral conduct off as something that everyone engages in constitutes approval to endorse its widespread acceptance and practice by others.“

Here is a quote from Charleston Daily Mail:
(“Which are you going to pick to make your child go to?“
“I think it’s a no-brainer,“ said Athanasia Butcher, Gilmer County High School’s principal.
The principal said her niece, a 2009 Gilmer County High grad, left the school for Shepherd University with about 30 college credit hours, almost enough to be a first-semester sophomore.)

The fact the GCHS principal is still around shows what she values the most. Power, money, discrimination against the poor to name a few. How any decent person could face the students and her peers after what has been revealed about her family’s lifestyle? This just shows she does not care.

to Rno290:
Certainly one can appreciate some “Out of the Box” thinking, and your comment proved a point. The trend in Gaga album sales somewhat accounts in theory for the sudden popularity of the Butcher sisters. And Lady Gaga seems to be the Alter Ego of Nasia!!
At least her fantasy of herself and that image has seemed to have had some influence on the younger members of the family, therefore the Lady Gaga comparison does seem valid now that I have read your most artful take on the situation.
Your divergent thinking has put an out of place matter in place! Thanks

The reality that people are using a commentary about Lady Gaga to rage about Nasia Butcher as principal of the high school is kind of funny. Come on people ... the two are not related. But what this does demonstrate is how badly many want her gone. Why don’t we find a more direct method for saying that she is ABUSIVELY rude;fosters a hostile work place; talks down to and about children in a nasty manner; and simply in general, and in my opinion, could maybe benefit from MEDICATION. Let’s just say that. Oh and in case I have broken policy, Lady Gaga is who she is, and as an American is allowed to be and say what she chooses. Remember we have free speech and are suppose to be the influence our children actually adhere to,right? If she were really that bad and did and said things which the public found offensive, wouldn’t her album sales suffer? Wouldn’t they?

I cannot believe that ANY parent let alone a Gilmer County High School Principal would even suggest that this is normal and what kids do. It is not normal and if my daughters had posed and posted pictures of the deplorable things her girls were doing it would not happen a second time I can tell you for sure, momma and daddy would have taken control of things believe you me.
The actions of the sisters kissing each other sexually and the pictures of what they did to the males in the pictures is just inexcusable, unacceptable and most of all NOT normal.
The problem lies a lot with the parents and lack of control but most of all common sense. Shows me that just because you have a big college diploma and money does not mean you have good common sense.
We teach our children by example and living decent lives. Excessive drinking, partying and lack of control is not a way of showing good examples for anyone, children or adults.
No wonder other counties did not want her as Principal.
No wonder people are questioning her position now as Principal. I certainly do.
I do not know how these two girls can face their friends both at the High School and College and on the street or how the parents can face the people knowing and seeing what is going on with their daughters. How degrading and embarrassing.

In response to HS52 - Teacher17 - Mary J.
The TRUTH of the matter is that in Gilmer County there are two sets of rules, one for the Power Elite and another set of rules, “The Rules” for the rest of us.
The Power Elite seem to think it is “OK” to break laws and “Make your own rules,” and then there are laws for the rest of us, which more times than not results in persecution then, prosecution.
I say it is high time to stop with the two rule situation and hold the power elite accountable for their actions.
I have recently read all the comments and I have come to the conclusion that:
“Truth” revealed by a local website which publicly displayed the pictures of local girls in the nude along with the activity of drinking and the drugs was all the “Truth” I needed to know that our local community has more than a stray cat problem. I think with all the discussion and rebuttals and ratings breakdowns, a fine point was missed among all the rigmarole. Why should we have a principal at Gilmer County High School that thinks that sort of outlandish behavior is OK? Nasia says the behavior displayed by the revealing photos is OK!!
COCAINE USE WAS DISPLAYED BY PHOTOGRAPHS FOR ALL TO SEE AND THAT IS OK? UNDERAGE DRINKING AND THAT WAS OK? PUBLIC SEX AND THAT IS OK?
The Power Elite play by their own rules and can break the law and their children can break the law with no consequence, while the rest of us face long years in prison if we were to actively seek the same behavior.
If Power Elite members that include Nasia Butcher can remove the CalPatty Press Gilmer County “Sex Scandal” article, and the entire website and other articles involved in free speech, what other acts considered a detriment to the public welfare could occur? The CalPatty Press still had a right to say what they felt was “True.” The Elite have been in control of the press in Gilmer County for over one hundred years until recently.
Stray cats are the biggest news in Glenville right now. They have the spotlight, but more than stray cats are “Truly” out of the bag after the revealing story and photo’s were released in the CalPatty Press who brought us the real truth for all to see with our own eyes!!
Why beat around the bush, we should immediately ask for the resignation of Nasia Butcher. I feel she is not the correct person to hold the position of principal after reviewing several media sources.
The Cal Patty Press was removed from public viewing for providing that very information we all needed to know and see for ourselves. Seeing, really is believing!
That old wives tale is true. Do I have someone out there that agrees with my proposal of disposal and suggestion of getting someone new? We should gather a petition for the removal of Nasia Butcher.
