Pat’s Chat

The Free Press WV

My hummingbirds are keeping me busy.  I thought they tapered off feeding by the middle of October but they must be storing up for their long flight south for the winter.  I love the beautiful teeny creatures!  I love the cooler days we have been having, until a couple of days ago.  It is summer time again for a week or so according to the weather news.

I was sorry to hear that Paul Peck, a Burnsville friend of mine, was burned at his home and is in a burn unit at a Huntington hospital.  He teaches at Glenville State College.

A gentle hero of a man died October 01, 2018, Henry Ford Carver.  There will be a Celebration of Life service at for him at the Buckhannon Seventh-day Adventist Church on October 14, 2018, at 11:00 a.m.  Burial will follow in the Buckhannon Veterans Cemetery in Buckhannon.  The Upshur County Honor Guard will conduct military honors at the graveside.  In lieu of flowers, we are asked to make contributions to the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Brushy Fork Road, P. O. Box 205, Buckhannon, WV 26201.  You can read his obituary and leave condolences at

Ford, as he was known to his church family, was named for the owner of Ford Motor Company who was expected at his father’s job site for a meeting on the day of his birth.  The obituary states:  “Mr. Ford didn’t show up, but Baby Henry Ford did, and thus that became his name” on November 28, 1922.  Ford was a young 95, with a constant smile and good humor.  Though he wasn’t able to attend church regularly, he was always delightfully happy when he did come.  He married Charlene Merritt on July 17, 1971.  He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp. in 1942 and was honorably discharged in 1945.  Charlene and his whole family will miss him terribly.  I hope you will get to read his entire obituary as there are many interesting things about him that you may enjoy reading about.  I certainly did.

THE APPEARING is a FREE event about end-time Bible prophecies that will be held at the Buckhannon Seventh-day Adventist Church in five sessions beginning on Thursday, October 11 with Session 1, “A Planet in Upheaval.”  Then on Friday, October 12 is the second session, “The Abomination of Desolation.”  There will be two sessions on Saturday, October 13, Session 3 at 11:00 a.m., “The Appearing”; Session 4 at 7:00 p.m., “Prophecy Interrupted.”  The final Session 5 will be Sunday, October 14 at 7:00 p.m. “The Battle of Armageddon.”  You really don’t want to miss this.  These important messages brought to us on screen by The Voice of Prophecy speaker, Shawn Boonstra.  I certainly plan to attend.  I hope to see you there.  To find out more about it, go to or call 800.297.9071.

It seems my Chat is ALL about what is happening at my church, but I am also VERY excited about our Sabbath Service for October 20 at 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m.  Our children will conduct the whole service (with two young men who must be around 10 years old or so doing the PowerPoint Program), “Journey Beyond the Stars.”  We will have a potluck dinner after that.

Looking a little further into the future, our Fall Social will be held at the Sapp farm on October 27th beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a potluck supper in the barn.  Be sure and let Sheri-Lyn Sapp (304-472-4848) or Sandi Stutler (304.269.2353) know what you are bringing.
