WV Governor Thanks All Those Who Have Donated to the Statewide Food Drive

The Gilmer Free Press

Governor Earl Ray Tomblin today praised the hundreds of individuals, families, businesses, and community organizations who contributed to past week’s statewide food drive.

The governor and first lady began the food drive at the Capitol on July 3rd. Last week, the food drive was extended statewide with the support of the State Chamber of Commerce, the West Virginia National Guard and West Virginia Media Holdings.

“I continue to be amazed by West Virginians’ sense of compassion for one another. Since the first storm on June 29th, we have seen an outpouring of support for those in need,” Governor Tomblin said. “The food drives have been another example of how West Virginians come together in times of need. The monetary donations and truckloads of food we have received will go a long way in restocking the barren shelves in our state’s food pantries. Joanne and I extend our heartfelt appreciation to everyone who has contributed.”

The two drives collected $94,000 to purchase food and 5 truckloads of food which will be distributed to food pantries across the state through the Mountaineer Food Bank and the Huntington Area Food Bank.
