Lots of political activity is going on.  I have voted early with my new “Unaffiliated Status” as far as political party is concerned.  I didn’t know I could vote without being a member of any political party, so I thought I would let everyone know that it is possible.  Everything on both sides is so messy, I threw up my hands and gave up, and someone told me this was possible.  I immediately went to the Court House and changed my status to unaffiliated.  I am happy with that.

Talking about messy politics, it is nothing new.  When Jesus was arrested and taken before Annas, the High Priest and the official assembly of elders which was hastily called (at night, and that was illegal, I believe in the Jewish economy).  His own people condemned him.  Then he went to the Roman governor who was vacillating and weak-willed (Pilate) and the pompous Herod Antipas.  What a scene to hand down through the pages of history!  Sounds familiar doesn’t it?  Here was Jesus standing before a fallible human judge and yet he was Judge of all the earth!  It is something to remember that whoever knows the most about any situation has the greater sin.  Pilate and the Roman soldiers were comparatively ignorant of Christ.  In rejecting him, those who know the most are the most guilty.  What about you and me?  We ARE responsibile for the light that we have.

But what about Pilate’s hands?  He washed his hands and said he was not responsible for Jesus’ death - but all the water of the seven seas could never cleanse him.  Like Pilate, we may deny responsibility, but our denial just adds to our sin and declares that we recognize that it was a sin when we committed it.  So we cannot pour condemnation upon Pilate or any of the other men who condemned Jesus and chose Barabbas.  (You can read this story in Matthew, Mark, Luke or John.)  Just what would YOU have done in Pilate’s place if your job were at stake, your very life at stake?  What you would have done then is revealed by what you are doing now.  Are you serving Christ now?  Are you confessing Christ every day?

The apostle Paul says that Jesus Christ “witnessed a good confession” before Pontius Pilate (1 Timothy 6:13).  What is our witness today?  Do we confess our faith in our homes, offices, shops, at work or at play, wherever we are?  Do we witness a good confession?  That is the question that comes to us from Pilate’s judgment hall.  (I got these ideas from my devotional book, Walking through the Bible with H.M.S. Richards, p. 322.)

We had an amazing Sabbath Service yesterday.  The entire service except for offering collection and some prayers was brought to us by 3AM.  The is the name of Three Angels’ Messengers (3AM) which is a motorcycle Association.  This is an organization that has groups all across the USA, and other places, too, I believe.  They love motorcycling, but they also love to bring the message of salvation to many who would otherwise not hear it.  Their allegiance is to Jesus Christ who loves us and who washes us with His own blood.

Their Praise songs, and other beautiful music and their message were brought to us by Bill “Brotherman” Hunt, Audrey Hunt, Stacy Blanzy, Magali Oliveira.  Their musical instruments were varied string instruments.  The message was based on the book of John in the Bible and interesting insights into each situation.  One of them was that Jesus would have died for any one person.  He said Jesus could have been relieved of his suffering on the cross immediately, but, instead, Jesus hung on throughout the long day so that one thief would surrender his life to the Lord.  God made provision for everyone to be saved, but not everyone chooses to accept it.  But it was an impressive explanation of his love in waiting for the one thief to recognize the fact that this was Royalty on the cross.  “Lord, save me when you come into your Kingdom.“

I went into their website at http://www.3angelsmessengers.com and found that the West Virginia association call themselves Vedettes.  The definition is the term Vedettes means a mounted sentry positioned beyond an army’s outposts to observe the movements of the enemy.  If you would like to have a group of cyclers come to your church for their unforgettable presentation, phone 304.884.5446.
