Iris Loraine Baughman Tallhammer
Age 68, of Russett Road, Normantown, WV, graduated to Heaven on March 22, 2012 after a long illness.
Mrs. Tallhammer was born at Webster Springs, Webster County WV a daughter of the late Adam R. Baughman and Mildred I. Cowger Baughman.
She was a nurse aide for 10 years and a registered nurse-certified school health nurse for 36 years. She served as public health nurse in Calhoun County and Gilmer County Health Departments for a total of 32 years.
She was a member of Glenville Community Church and Rush Run Baptist Church. She enjoyed family, missionary work, writing poetry, singing gospel music, and art.
Surviving are her daughter, Rebecca Lynn (Tallhammer) Butler and son-in-law, Douglas Butler; 3 brothers, Dennis and Patti Baughman of Wellington OH, John and Dorlan Baughman and Edward and Debra Baughman all of Webster Springs; 1 sister, Brenda and Darrell Caudill of Columbus OH; 3 brothers-in-law, James Guy Tallhammer of Coxs Creek KY, Parker and Wilma Tallhammer of Glenville WV; Robert and Joan Tallhammer, Sr. of Oberlin Oh; 1 sister-in-law, Oleta Tallhammer; brother-in-law, Odell Wood; 21 nephews and 17 nieces and extended families of these listed.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Tallhammer; 1 sister, Linda Sue Baughman, 1 stepbrother, William Baughman; maternal grandparents, Clarence ‘CL’ and Minnie Hamrick Baughman.
Funeral services will be held 12 Noon, Saturday, March 24 at Stump Funeral Home at Arnoldsburg, WV.
Pastors Randy Wilson and John Vannoy will officiate.
Interment will be in the Union-Turner Cemetery at Lockney WV.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 10:30 AM Saturday until the time of services.
Rex F. Hardman
Age 89 of Buckhannon, formerly of Glenville, passed away on March 10, 2012, in Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.
He was born June 08, 1922, near Lockney, a son of the late Mack and Lora Meadows Hardman.
He was also preceded in death by his six brothers, Harper, Lyle, Glen, Lee, Vance and Troy Hardman.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Lorene Britton Hardman of Buckhannon; a daughter, Shirley Lundell and her husband, Rodger, of Buckhannon; three grandsons, Brian Lundell and his wife, Icle, of Germany, Eric Lundell and his wife, Sandy, of Alexandria, VA, and Rex Lundell of Buckhannon; and two great-grandchildren, Abby Naughton of Buckhannon and Vincent Lundell of Midlothian, VA.
Mr. Hardman graduated from Normantown High School in 1941. He graduated from Glenville State College in 1951 with a Bachelor of Arts in education and graduated from West Virginia University in 1957 with a Master of Arts in education. He retired form the education system in Gilmer County after being a teacher, vice principal and Gilmer County Superintendent of schools in 1979. He and his wife then enjoyed their winter months in central Florida for 20 years and then recently moved to Buckhannon. Mr. Hardman was a Veteran and served in the Air Corp during World War II. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Lions Club for many years while living in Gilmer County.
The family will receive family and friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Friday, March 16, at Tomblyn Whitescarver Funeral Chapel in Buckhannon.
On Saturday, March 17, he will be moved to Glenville First Baptist Church in Glenville for viewing from 9:00 AM. until the time of the service at 11:00 AM, with the Rev. Kenneth Fisher presiding.
Burial will follow in Meadow Lane Cemetery.
The Lewis County Honor Guard will provide Military Funeral Honors at the gravesite.

Howard Rafferty
Age 72, of WV Hwy 5 East, Grantsville, WV, passed away February 11, 2012 at his home after a long illness.
He was a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church of Grantsville, was a retired machinist by trade, a pilot and most of all a servant of Jesus Christ.
He was born September 11, 1939 at Holt Run in Gilmer County a son of the late Clark and Beryl Radabaugh Rafferty.
Surviving are his wife of 30 years, Sheryl Rafferty; 2 sons, Mathew of Akron OH and Ben of Grantsville; a daughter, Erin Sorencen (Eric) of Corona CA; a sister, Judy Malloney (Tom) of Little River SC; a brother, Gary Rafferty (Sherri) of Barberton OH; sister-in-law, Judy Rafferty of Long Beach CA; stepmother, Doris Vineyard Rafferty.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Ron Rafferty.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Thursday, February 16, 2012 at Bethlehem Baptist Church with Rev. Gene Johnson officiating.
Interment will be in Turner Cemetery at Lockney.
Friends will be received at the church one hour prior to the services.

Chester Ray Parsons
Age 61 of Tanner Creek Rd. Glenville West Virginia, departed this life at 6:30 AM, Sunday January 22, 2012 at Arnoldsburg following an extended illness.
He was born on July 10, 1950 in Gilmer County, son of the late Delbert and Geneva Harris Parsons.
Chester enjoyed tending to his farm animals, horses and chickens, and as a youth attended the Chestnut Lick Baptist Church.
Surviving are 12 siblings, Lenora “Sis” Miller of Glenville, Jack Parsons and wife Geraldine of Lockney WV, Hallie Minney and husband Kesley of Sand Fork WV, Cora Kimes of New Haven WV, Wanda Accord of Beckley WV, Patricia Knisley of Spencer WV, Madeline Duskey of Tanner WV, Greta Peters and husband Paul of Glenville WV, Jessie Parsons of McFarlan WV, Gena “Kay” Peters and husband John of Glenville, Steve Parsons and wife Regina of Glenville, and Bobby Parsons of Lockney. Chester is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by 1 sister Pearl Parsons and 1 brother Eddie Parsons.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Ellyson Mortuary Inc., Glenville WV, 11:00 AM, Thursday January 26, 2012 with Pastor Randy Wilson officiating.
Burial will follow in the Collins Community Cemetery at Stumptown.
Friends may call 5:00 – 8:00 PM Wednesday at the Mortuary.
Ellyson Mortuary Inc. is assisting the family of Chester Ray Parsons with arrangements.

Thursday, December 29, 2011 at 6:00 PM at Audrey’s (Common Place) there is a meeting of the Gilmer Schools Coalition in coordination with any and all interested parties willing to organize and stand as one voice, united, to take back Gilmer County Schools.
This is an opportunity for each individual to have your voice heard, choose a spokesperson via true democratic process and move forward with honest efforts to end this nightmare.
It is an opportunity to show that we will put the children and their future before the political well-being of others.
Let us set the example showing that we will, as a community, stand up and be counted when it comes to their future.

Ronald Clark Rafferty
Age 74, passed away suddenly on August 05, 2011 of a heart attack in Glendale, California.
Preceded in death by his father and mother: Buryl Clark (Doris) Rafferty and Virginia Beryl (Radabaugh) Rafferty.
Survived by wife Judy Rafferty of Long Beach, CA; two brothers, Howard Rafferty of Grantsville, WV and Gary Rafferty of Barberton, Ohio; one sister, Judy Rafferty (Mullaney of Little River, SC; and four children, Tim, Mick and Julie, all of Bishop, CA and Sean of Long Beach, CA.
Ron was born on March 28, 1937 in Clarksburg, WV in Harrison County.
He grew up in Gilmer and Lewis Counties in WV.
In 1949 he moved to Akron, OH and graduated in 1955 from Garfield High.
Ron served 4 years as a jet mechanic in the US Air Force (1955-1959).
He moved in 1959 to Southern California where he worked in aviation industries as a jet mechanic and pilot.
Ron was a Christian man. He belonged to First Baptist Church in Simi, CA.
Ron loved flying and spent the last 20 years as a corporate pilot. He retired in 2008 in Glendale, CA.
There will be a memorial service in Akron, OH on Saturday, October 22, 2011 and grave side services at Turner Cemetery on Middle Run Road, Lockney, WV on Sunday, October 23, 2011 at 2:00 PM.

I think that the mayor has done a great job the past 4 years. Alot of people don’t appreciate what she has done, then you have others getting into her business which has nothing to do with anyone but the mayor. I want to thank her for all she has done. Some people need to mind their own business!!!

For those four years the City got to pay a higher salary for Mayor and went from a part time to a full time secretarial position. The City doesn’t own the Park where we’re not allowed to sit and eat lunch on a bench. City taxpayers got a bill to remodel the Mayor’s office, We still have crumbling sidewalks, no street paving, collapsing water, sewer and drain lines, a failing treatment plant that badly needs an upgrade along with higher water and sewer bills. We paid the highest tax rate in the county for a couple of parties and 2 dogs to feed and vet. No infrastructure improvements and absolutely no maintenance. We did learn the Mayor likes to party.
According to three Council members and the main office it’s all true. Knowing all this it’s real easy to believe they got rid of one more that won’t play ball for the politicos at the High School.

You say that my Internal Evidence is “one of the lamest pieces of sophistry I have ever seen.“ One of the oldest ploys in debate is ridicule. When you cannot deal with the argument, make light of it.
You agree that blood is the evidence, and scientific knowledge is the proof, but you do not say how you get that scientific knowledge. Is it not through testing the blood itself? And we are in agreement as to the white granular substance, the proof is in the lab test.
That’s the point I was making with regard to the inspiration of The Bible. The Bible is evidence. Examining the scriptures is the proof…..if you want to draw a distinction betweeen the two. In my dictionary, proof is listed as a synonym for evidence, and evidence is listed as a synonym for proof.
You say that men have been testing The Bible through higher criticism for a century and a half, and it does not pass the tests. You fail to mention just who these higher critics are, their background and belief, and what tests The Bible has failed. It’s easy to make charges. Can you back them up with proof?
Do we not accept the testimony of eye-witnesses in a court of law, unless there is reason to believe they are not trustworthy? Should we not accept the testimony of these holy men of God who claimed they were speaking the word of God, unless we have reason to believe they were not being truthful? If you do not accept their testimony, then it is up to you to prove they were lying. What ever happened to “innocent until proven guilty”?
If you will take the time to honestly search the scriptures, you will be impressed with their Unity and Harmony, their Beauty and Influence, the Fulfillment of Prophecy, and the Scientific Foreknowledge, all of which we will examine in future articles.

What normally happens when organizations fail is a leadership change. One is needed now for Gilmer County, particularly for the high school. There is no evidence that citizens are getting value for their money over there with the disregardful performance scores our students are getting. Then too for the past few years there has been perpetual chaos with all types of problems, but nothing has been done by Ron Blankenship to effectively deal with issues. We have heard allegations about wild parties involving faculty and students, chronic down time with computer systems, low faculty and staff morale caused by fear, bullying, sex between faculty and students, grade changing and other forms of preferential treatment of students from rich and powerful families, wasteful spending, failure to solve the rash of bomb threats, and much more. Blankenship was the wrong person for the job because of his ties to the Butchers who helped achieve the State’s take over of our schools, getting him installed, and keeping him in the County. He needs to be replaced. While at it, why can’t another job be found for the principal so we can get a better one to lead with getting the new Common Core Standards started? Mr. Charles Heinlein, Dr. Phares, and Dr. Linger do you hear us or is it true that none of you care?

Hundreds of thousands if not millions of dollars spent on boards and task forces, studies and reports (not to mention a Governor’s Audit). Given massive and repeated failure the money would have been better spent on text books and Teachers.
Consolidation was NOT the answer. It’s been going on longer than most can remember with no real savings or educational improvement to show for it.
A moratorium on any consequences related to new and unproven programs is the right thing to do. It’s not as though there’s a history of getting much right when it comes to education.

Ideas like Common Core have been percolating in the country for many years. It wasn’t until 2009 when the National Governors Association’s Center on Best Practices and the Council of Chief State School Officers convinced their members to support an initiative to develop what they deemed to be voluntary, state-led standards, that it took root. The idea, however, that Common Core bubbled up from the states has shifted. A nonprofit group called “Achieve, Inc.“ stocked with federal standards advocates who’ve been around since many years, has been pointed to as designing the materials and the program’s progress has been spurred on by funding from, among others, the Gates Foundation and the U.S. Department of Education. For an undertaking that claims to be state-generated and largely free of federal involvement Common Core twisted, becoming a foot in the door for federal Race to the Top dollars.

As long as this State BOE retains control and keeps remodeling more of the same we will see the same results. When will the Legislature do the research necessary to make something new happen? Global 21, 21st Century, Next Gen, Common Core,at least eight years documented as more of the same.

To us the bible as proof of its own inspiration is, in logic, a classic example of circular reasoning. It is like saying “I’m right because I say I am”.
The writer confuses evidence with proof.
In the case of the blood, the blood is only the evidence; it is the scientific knowledge of blood that is the proof. The white granular substance is only the evidence; the lab test is the proof.
With regard to the bible, we have been testing the “thing itself’ through higher criticism for a century and a half and the “thing itself” does not pass the tests.

WV is a full-fledged participant in the new national Common Core Standards program. The confusion is caused by the State’s reference to the Next Generation program that is actually the Common Core Standards program for K-12 English learning arts and math. One advantage of joining the national program is that there will be on-line testing to determine how individual schools, and county school systems in WV compare with education outcomes, and the State’s overall performance can be compared to other states. The objective for Common Core is to strive to establish the USA as a world leader in education, something we lag badly with now.
