Community Talk Heard Through The G-Vine™:

Sale of Elementary Schools

•  Where does Gilmer board of education president Bill Simmons stand on the plan to sell all the elementary schools in Gilmer County?

•  Does he really care what effect it will have on Gilmer County children to lose all opportunity to play organized sports since he has no grand children in our system.

•  Why won’t those who experienced his reign of terror and mismanagement at glenville state college years ago speak up and say now what they said then?

•  Bill Simmons was never the right choice to be a leader when it comes to education in Gilmer County.

•  If he wasn’t the one for GLENVILLE STATE COLLEGE THEN, HOW CAN HE BE THE ONE FOR GILMER COUNTY SCHOOLS NOW?

CON JOB:  SIMMONS OUTSMARTS ED TOMAN SUPPORTERS AND GILMER ELECTORATE TO BECOME GILMER COUNTY BOE BOARD PRESIDENT

•  Public School Superintendent Toman’s contract was not renewed by the Gilmer County Board of Education March 2009 upsetting for Glenville State College elite who felt Toman was leading the public school system in a superior manner.

•  After an interim the Gilmer Board members replaced Mr. Toman with excommunicated former President of Glenville State Dr. William Simmons upsetting the Glenville State College elite even more.  The very thought of Simmons replacing Toman as Superintendent and gaining a seat on the GSC Board of Governors was not palatable!

•  The West Virginia Board of Education stepped in preventing Simmons from taking over the school system.

•  What does Simmons do?  He deceives the lot of us in Gilmer County. Fooled us into believing he didn’t stand for state intervention and had the backing to stop it.  Wins Board election, is appointed President then unilaterally decides to support WVDOE’s consolidation plans for all four of Gilmer Elementary schools to one.

•  Simmons is waiting in the wings to become Superintendent of Gilmer County school system.

•  Gabe Devono, better watch his back.

Is It True?

•  Rumor has it that Devano has been given the “go ahead” to pay off friends by giving out taxpayer bought equipment.  Cutters, slicers, grinders and other very expensive equipment is said being given to a select few.  Normally surplus school equipment is sold at auction and the money put into the local school system for the kids benefit.

•  Not under intervention in Gilmer County.  Dr. Martirano and WVBOE Board President, and Dr. Cindy Daniel are wrong to condone actions like this.

Conversation In McDonalds Parking Lot

•  Simmons and Devono trying to pull the wool over our eyes again?!

Called Charleston to check because it’s never smart to believe a word they say. Schools have to have minimum acreage to be right.

Here’s what they said we needed:

Elementary School- 5 usable acres

Middle School – 11 usable acres

High School – 15 usable acres

•  Isn’t this why Glenville Elementary never had a ball field or enough parking spaces?

Not enough usable land?

They had the career center build them a shed to make enough storage didn’t they?

How are they going to put a middle school when the state already had the meeting & closed it the end of this year. This county paid to advertise the meetings!  Not enough land was one of the reasons we couldn’t tear it down and rebuild. We had to buy more land.

•  What’s up with this nonsense?

Another one of those back room deals where the local board will get the blame on down the road for a poor site in another OEPA report?

Will that be the excuse to hold on here or is it just a time out tactic to keep us quiet for a while?

Normantown:

•  All I know is that Linn school cost us a great secretary.

Still have three more schools to close and only one to open.

Who knows how many more to go?

•  I imagine they’ll start pushing the rest of our experienced people to retire.

Morris Field:

•  The Superintendent said he will be getting together with us in groups over the next two weeks.

We have to vote for RIF by seniority or RIF by posting jobs and reapply.

No idea why he is telling us this in August.

•  What a way to start the new school year.Very depressing.

Rosedale Senior Center:

•  My grandson is on that school bus way over an hour.

Didn’t read that on any schedule did you?

Questions and Rumors Re: The new Lewis County School at Linn

Rumors Abound:  Williams+Shriver & The Big Slip & Gas vs. Electric

Can anyone put the rumor mill to bed ?

Who is responsible for the alleged issues,  if in fact, there are some ?

We have been hearing for some time now,  that natural gas as a utility source is not available.  The Lewis County school will be all electric ?

Rumor has it that school was designed for gas,  but had to be redesigned for electric ?

Again.  Who is responsible ?  More than one person or firm ?

Being under intervention by the WV Board of Education,  are they to foot the bill ?

Driving past the school site,  its pretty obvious there is a earth stability issue above the building site ?

Who has the responsibility for that ?  Its rumored that additional acreage must be purchased ?  True ?  False ?

When a contract is negotiated with the architectural firm, would it not be their responsibility for core samples and ground slips ?

If the rumor mill is correct,  this building project may turn as a ‘fool’s folly’  ?  One has to wonder.

If these rumors are correct,  who pays ?

The taxpayers ?  The designer ?  The builders ?  The contractors ?  The State ?  Who ?

•  Is it true That Gilmer County Commission had to borrow 300K just to keep running?

•  Money issues are a continuing plague in the Sheriff’s office?

•  Nearly 10 pages of unpaid taxes! in the Democrat this week! Why?

•  Administration issues continue with state run schools?

•  County employees state many more pages of taxes than in past 15 or 20 years.

•  Why has there been no more disclosure or comments when the state appointed school superintendent disobeyed the Health Department Order to CLOSE Sand Fork School because of no water available?

Community talk heard through the G-Vine:

•  An 8th grader at Gilmer County High School had to be taken by ambulance on Thursday, May 23, 2013 because he passed out in the office after taking drugs. Reportedly he came to school high and then put controlled pills in Red Bull and drank it.

•  The 8th grader who should not be in school comes to school high and the system is not doing anything to help him.

•  Speaking of bulling at GCHS, this student is a big bully. To solve the bullying problem, he used to be taken out of class and let to clean the classrooms. But the cleaning stopped because of items missing in classrooms.

•  The 8th grader passed out in office and neither principal nor assistant principle were present.

•  This kid terrorizes the classroom on purpose. Why doesn’t anyone do anything to help him?

•  This 8th grader needs help and should not be in school.

Community talk heard through the G-Vine:

Questions arise regarding the sudden and unexpected resignation of Mayor Tashua Allman-Duval:

•  Is it true that the Mayor has not been at City Hall or able to be reached by phone during the past three weeks while her mail remains unopened.

•  Is it true that immediately prior to this the Mayor’s home furnishings were offered for sale on Facebook?

•  Is it true the Allman-Duvall’s have not been seen at their home for at several weeks?

•  Will the Mayor attend the final City Council meeting of her term in June?

•  Is it true that no Council person or Employee of City Hall was aware of the resignation before the letter on the GFP?

•  Why would the Mayor resign after the ballot was printed and after the time anyone could file for that office even as a write-in?

•  Was the Mayor’s resignation a political ploy to insure election of one remaining Candidate?

•  Could the timing of this resignation be a coincidence or a product of the same old game of political gain which has caused so much voter apathy in Gilmer County?

•  Is it true the GSC Baseball Coach Gilbert got fired because he wouldn’t play the politics game?

•  Is it true the WV State Police had to use dogs to search the Gilmer County High School all night Sunday due to pipe bomb threat on Facebook?

Did you hear that many pistol shots rang out at the new Glenville Sports Club Bar & Grille (Old Lion’s Lair) Saturday night?

Fight broke out; barmaid’s car had tire and window shot out and on her car (its parked there now)

The shooting continued on over into Brooklyn with the police calling backup and many arrests made.

They say it broke out between black & white in the bar, went out into parking lot black on black then they ran over to Brooklyn to let their friends there know trouble was coming.

Things are not getting any better around here in Glenville, is it?

G-Vine™: Heard It Through G-Vine – 12.31.12

Community talk heard through the G-Vine:

•  Is it true about the new school they want to build in the Linn area that they want natural gas and Garretts refusing to give them a right away so they might have to re-design everything and make the school all electric?

•  Was the site for the new school in Linn nothing but a swamp area and could this cause a lot of problems?

•  THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS AT THE MICKEY METZ’S SHERIFF OFFICE WERE DUE TO BE IN THE PAPER BY SEPTEMBER 30TH.  STILL NOT OUT! WHY?

•  There is chatter about recent alleged sexual misconduct at the GCHS involving staff and students. Do you know if there is anything to it?

•  Since Mickey Metz is leaving the office there should be a settlement report due December 31, 2012. Should it not?

•  Commissioners Kennedy and Ramsey have failed to report the financial crisis and missing funds under Sheriff Metz’s role as the county treasurer? Why?

•  The last day of school before Christmas, an english teacher at GCHS caught students in the back of her classroom using marijuana and reported them to the principal. What is the deal with that?

•  It is horrible that examples of alleged misconduct at GCHS go unreported.  That failure is enabling the individuals who could care the least about decency. What it will take is a parent or another individual in the know to rise up to file a formal complaint about the sexual misconducts at school. Have any complaints been filed? If administrators know about problems and they fail to act it is my belief that they could be held accountable similar to what happened at Penn State.
