Student Organization Collecting Warm Clothing at GSC

GLENVILLE, WV - Students in the Glenville State College Baptist Campus Ministries (BCM) student organization are collecting winter weather gear that they plan to donate to the Latrobe Street Mission in Parkersburg and Christian Help Inc. in Morgantown. They are asking for donations of gloves, scarves, blankets, socks, winter coats, hats, hand warmers, and more.

In the future they plan to continue making donations to the two missions at least twice per semester. The group is also planning to help the Parkersburg mission serve meals from their newly constructed soup kitchen that is slated to open in April.

“Our group is blessed to be able to help the less fortunate in this small, but hopefully impactful, way. It brings to mind the quote from Mother Theresa ‘small things done with great love will change the world.’ BCM tries to operate by the motto ‘Changing Lives that Change the World’ and we are hoping to change some lives for the better by providing these warm coats and hats this winter,” said BCM Associate Lance Linden.

Donations can be dropped off during regular BCM meetings on Wednesday evenings at 8:00 p.m. on the third floor of the Mollohan Campus Community Center on campus. You can also contact BCM staff advisor Jenny Boggs at 304.462.6186 for more information.

GSC’s Early Education Student Group Participates in the Gift of Giving

Members of the Glenville State College Early Education Student Group (EESG) recently compiled gift boxes for the First Baptist Church of Glenville’s Shoebox Ministry.

The 15 donated packages were filled with coloring books, crayons, puzzles, toys, books, gloves, toothpaste, and toothbrushes for children in Gilmer County.

Supplies for the boxes were donated by group members, parents, and children that attended the EESG’s Trick or Reading Night in late October.

This is the second year that the group has donated to the project.

All of the gifts collected for the shoebox ministry stay in Gilmer County and benefit local children.

“My co-advisor Shelly Ratliff and I are so proud of the Early Education Student Group’s efforts and their decision to reach out to young children in Gilmer County. A special thank you to the parents and children that donated items for the shoeboxes - each of you helped bring smiles to children’s faces on Christmas morning,“ said EESG advisor Connie Stout O’Dell.

The Gilmer Free Press

Have you ever wondered what it was like the night Jesus was born?

Mid State Church of God & Heaters UM Charge invites you to take a journey at their Living Drive Thru Nativity.

You will experience the wonder of that special night as you drive through the town of Bethlehem and take in the sights and sounds of the very first Christmas.

You will be taken through nine scenes from the prophecy of the birth of the Messiah to that solemn night in the manger—a night that gave us the greatest gift we still experience today.

The event will feature live animals, as well as a cast of characters portraying those who witnessed the birth of Jesus.

The nativity will be open beginning Saturday, December 06, 2014 from 6:00-8:00 PM and Sunday, December 07, 2014 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Holly Gray Park, off Flatwoods Exit 67 on I-79.

Visitors will receive a CD that will narrate their journey in the comforts of their own vehicle.

Come to witness the greatest gift ever given.

The event is free of charge and open to the public.

New characters and scenes have been added since last year’s nativity.

For more information contact Amanda at 304.765.2899 or Michelle at 304.765.2724.
