Lady Pioneers Have Six Score in Double Figures, Picks Up 13th Straight Victory

The Glenville State Lady Pioneers improved their home winning streak to 20 games and won their 13th straight as they defeated the Yellow Jackets of West Virginia State.

Glenville State (14-1, 9-0) scored over 70 points in the first half for the second straight game as they cruised to the 18 point win over West Virginia State (4-11, 4-5).

The Lady Pioneers raced out to a six point lead at the 7:40 minute mark of the first quarter at 12-6. However the Yellow Jackets scored the next six points as they tied the game up at 12-12 with 4:55 to play in the quarter.

Glenville State then went on a 9-0 run as they went back up by nine points leading 21-12 with 2:35 in the first quarter. GSC would end up taking a 14 point lead at the end of the first quarter 32-18.

The Lady Pioneers started the second quarter on a 20-10 run as they built a 24 point lead at 52-28 with 5:23 to play till halftime. GSC would end up taking a 30 point lead at halftime 73-43.

West Virginia State would outscore the Glenville State in the third quarter 25-22 however the Lady Pioneers still held a 27 point lead over WVSU 95-68.

The Yellow Jackets went on a run in the middle of the fourth quarter as they cut GSC’s lead to 19 however the Lady Pioneers would end up cruising to an 18 point win 117-99.

Glenville State finished the night shooting 40 percent from the floor but went just 17-for-61 from three for 27 percent while West Virginia State shot 52 percent from the field and 39 percent from deep.

The Lady Pioneers defense forced the Yellow Jackets into 21 turnovers and scored 32 points off of them while GSC only turned it over five times on the night.

Glenville State had six players in double figures with Courtney Davis and Bhrea Griffin both scoring 20 points. Tayana Stewart had a nice night as she scored 19 points off the bench while Julie Bishop scored 12 points and Paris McLeod chipped in with 11 points and seven assists in just 11 minutes of action.

Erika Toney scored 10 points on the night for GSC. Abby Stoller grabbed a game high 12 rebounds to go with five points.

West Virginia State was led by Jordan Miller as she scored a game high 25 points. Aurreshae Hines chipped in with 23 points and seven assists. Lyrin Hatcher posted a double-double for the Yellow Jackets as she scored 17 points and had nine rebounds.

Glenville State (14-1, 9-0) hit the road this weekend Saturday, January 13th as they travel to the University of Charleston for a 2:00 p.m. matchup with the Golden Eagles.
