As we wrap up another week in Washington, I wanted to update you on a few things, including my latest efforts to help families and communities in West Virginia. Click on the image below to learn more about a new bill I introduced this week to strengthen efforts to fight the opioid epidemic and keep scrolling for additional updates from this week in the Senate.

Preserving Our Wild and Wonderful National Parks

We are blessed to live in a state like West Virginia where natural beauty is all around us. It’s important that we continue to care for and preserve the incredible natural resources and attractions across our state. Unfortunately, West Virginia’s national parks have $52 million worth of backlogged maintenance, according to the Pew Charitable Trusts.

This week, I teamed up with Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke and a number of my colleagues to introduce the National Park Restoration Act, a bill that will address this problem. I am glad that the administration is making this issue a priority and working to develop solutions so West Virginians and visitors from across the country can enjoy our national parks for generations to come.

One of my favorite activities to do with family and friends is explore these treasures, and I encourage you to do the same. Check out a few of my favorite photos below from my visits to our state parks over the years. What are your favorites?

Spending Summer in the Senate

It’s hard to believe school will be out for the summer in just a few months. My office offers summer internships on Capitol Hill and in West Virginia where students can gain a better understanding of public service.

Think you might be interested? Learn more details about the program on my website and be sure to apply before the deadline on Friday, March 30. Hope to see you around the office this summer!

Sincerely,
