William Everett “Tink” Rose

Age 95, of Gassaway, WV passed away November 07, 2018, in Ruby Memorial Hospital.

He was born April 01, 1923, in Gassaway, WV to the late Everett O. Rose and Lovie Smarr. 

He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Mary Madeline (Mowery) Rose.

He was the longtime owner/operator of Gassaway Cabs.  After retirement, he loved playing cards with his friends and family, and was known for his woodworking ability, especially his wooden WV clocks.  He was a Christian and longtime member of the Engel Chapel Community Church of Stewart Addition, Gassaway.

Tink was a proud veteran, serving his country in the United States Army, 463rd Signal Heavy Construction Battalion during WW II in Hawaii, Guam, and Okinawa.

He is survived by one son, Dr. Bill Rose (Karen) of Morgantown, WV; three grandchildren: Amy Scott (Matt) of Morgantown, Kristen Perrott (Geoff) of Ashburn, VA, and Melanie Rose of Fairmont; WV; four great grandchildren: Justin Scott, Lauren Scott, Bennett Perrott, and Zachary Perrott.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jack Rose, who was killed in action in Normandy, France, during WW II; his two sisters and their husbands, Dorothea Yerkey (Edward), and Bessie Brady (Gene).

He was especially appreciative of Jeanie and Mike Grubb for all the help they’ve given him in the last few years, as well as having the strength to be back home the last three months of his life.  The family also wishes to thank the Hospice and VA nursing staff for their loving care.

Service will be 1 PM Saturday, November 10, 2018 at the Richard M. Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway with Pastor Tom Harper officiating.

Interment will be in the Sugar Creek Cemetery, Gassaway.

Friends may call two hours prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to West Virginia Caring, PO Box 323, Burnsville, WV 26335.
