Olan E. “Bud” Hitt Sr.

Age 82 and a part-time resident of Linn, WV passed away from cancer on Sunday at Seasons Hospice at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center near Baltimore, MD.

Mr. Hitt’s family was from Linn and he was born in Morgantown, WV to Hugh Hitt and the former Freda Mae McGarry.

The family eventually moved to Baltimore and Mr. Hitt lived for many years in the suburb of Dundalk.

He worked for 40 years at Bethlehem Steel in Sparrows Point, Md., where he was a roller on the tandem mills. He retired in 1995.

In the early 1980s, Mr. Hitt built a cabin with the help of family on land he purchased on Sleeths Run Road.

Mr. Hitt brought his family to the cabin in Linn for holidays and vacations. Four generations have enjoyed spending time in the peaceful setting of the cabin.

He also was a devout Christian and an avid coin collector.

Mr. Hitt is survived by two brothers, Jim Hitt of Linn, WV, and Bill Hitt of Nebo, NC, and a sister, Barbara Friese of Dundalk.

He also is survived by three of his children: Olan E. “Eddie” Hitt Jr. of Dundalk; Andrea Hitt of Dundalk; Sherryl “Sherri” Wood of Dundalk, and her husband, Earle Wood.

He also is survived by six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; as well as his companion, Mae Pavlovich of Baltimore.

He was preceded in death by a brother, David Hitt; a sister, Marie Hitt; a son, Walter “Rocky” Hitt; and a previous companion, Eleanor “Audrey” Howells. His marriage to the late Frances Hitt ended in divorce.

Funeral services were held in Dundalk, MD.
