Ernest D. “Ernie” Jones

Age 84, of Pennsboro, WV, passed away on Thursday, January 10, 2019, at Carehaven of Pleasants in Belmont, WV.

Ernie was born February 20, 1934 in Washburn, WV, a son of the late Manuel and Elsia (Mason) Jones.

He was a United States Army veteran stationed in Germany. He worked at the Ellenboro Glass Factory, Gilmore’s Service Station, Simonton, Windows, and was a stockholder of the Pennsboro Glass Factory. He loved country music and played in various bands including the Country Swingers Band, Route 74 Band, Care Gospel Singers and others. Ernie was a longtime member of the Pennsboro United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Violet (Summers) Jones; 2 daughters, Debbie McGougan (Michael) of Clarksburg, WV; Brenda Moran (Sammy) of New Milton, WV; 1 son, Steve Jones (Carla) of Pennsboro, WV; 3 grandchildren, Hannah Sias (Gary) of Weston, WV; Carly Eagleson (Nathan) of West Union, WV; Chazz Jones (Laurel) of West Union, WV; 6 step grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren with one on the way; 18 step great grandchildren; sisters, Janet Finley, Hilda Taylor, Carolyn McCroskey, Shirley Jones, and brother Dennis Jones.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Lorene Mitchell, Virginia Snyder and brothers, Jr. Jones and Emerson Jones.

Funeral services will be 12 PM, Monday, January 14, 2019, at the McCullough-Rogers Funeral Home, with Rev. Bill Durst officiating.

Burial will follow in the Hazelgreen Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 AM - 12 PM on Monday, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Ernie’s name be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, PO BOX 96011, Washington, DC, 20090.
