Dean Mason Strickland

Age 80, of Glenville, WV passed peacefully on Tuesday, February 26, 2019.

He was born on January 18, 1939, at Widen, WV the son of the late Ellis and Valeria Strickland. Dean is survived by his wife, Mary Bland Whiting Strickland.

He was a 1957 graduate of Gassaway High School and a 1965 graduate of Glenville State College. He served in the Army National Guard, the United States Navy, attended United States Naval Officer Candidate School, achieved the rank of LTJG, and served aboard the USS Canberra in Vietnam.

Dean had a lifelong passion for learning. He was a member of the high school band (trumpet), student council, and manager for the athletic teams. He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity.

Dean was a teacher, coach, athletic official, state employee and retired from Naomi Trucking, Inc. He loved turkey hunting, gardening, mowing, ramp digging, crosswords, reading, traveling and exploring new places. He and his “bride” made many trips to the West and Yellowstone National Park.

His greatest love and passion was for the amazing grace of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Glenville where he served on many boards and committees and helped in any way that he could. Dean was a mentor to children and youth. He loved giving of himself to the Church and the community of Glenville.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2019, at the First Baptist Church of Glenville.

The service will begin at 3:00 PM followed by fellowship and refreshments.

Dean’s body was donated to the WVU Human Gift Registry.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Glenville Cancer Fund.
