Leonard C. Tenney

Age 86, of Weston, WV passed away on Tuesday, October 23, 2018, in United Hospital Center surrounded by his family.

He was born in Queens in Upshur County, WV on October 31, 1931, the son of the late Cecil and Lelah Mae Reed Tenney.

On April 08, 1955, he married the former Carol Jane Yates, who will miss him dearly, after 64 years of making special memories together.

He is survived by two daughters: Whitney Ballard and husband, Denny, of Jane Lew, WV; and Allison Stalnaker and husband, Dan, of Weston; four grandchildren: Mark Stalnaker and Kira Stalnaker, both of Weston, Jared Ballard of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Brandon Ballard of Greensboro, NC; and one great granddaughter, Jade Stalnaker. He his also survived by one sister, Sharon Butler and husband, Bill, of Buckhannon and one nephew, Randy Butler.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two infant sons: Gregory Lynn and Carroll Dean Tenney, one sister, Marguerite Saeler, and one niece, Stephanie Saeler.

Leonard graduated from Jane Lew High School in 1950. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving from 1952-1954 as Sergeant Major for the 24th Infantry Division. After returning home, he worked as an accountant for Roger’s Oil Company, then later as maintenance supervisor for Matthews Brothers Wholesale of Clarksburg and finally for Prima Marketing in Fairmont, retiring in 2002.

He was a member of Gee Lick United Methodist Church where he served as superintendent, Sunday school teacher, and song leader for many years. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-granddaughter. He especially loved having family dinners together. He loved participating in and watching many different sports. He was a big fan of old Westerns and gospel music and telling stories.

In the hope of helping others, it was Leonard’s wish to donate his body for scientific and medical education and research to the WVU Human Gift Registry.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on November 03, 2018 at St. Matthew United Methodist Church in Weston with Rev. Russell Furr and Rev. Tim Conrad officiating.

The family will receive friends beginning at 10:30 AM with the service following at 11 AM.

Burial will be at a later date in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
