Russ was a member of the Weston High School class of 1956. He then began working for his parents, Dr. Alexander Trefz and Dr. Emily Trefz, at Weston General Hospital. His travels then started with a trip to New Orleans where he lived for about ten years and worked in the finance business. Russ’ love of West Virginia brought him back to Crawford where he began farming and bought a country store in Walkersville that was later converted into The Saloon. Meanwhile, he drove school bus for Lewis County Board of Education and retired after many years of service. Russ was also very active with the Lewis County Senior Center.

In retirement, Russ enjoyed spending time boating and water skiing on Stonewall Jackson Lake. He also went white water rafting several times. Water skiing wasn’t the only type of skiing Russ enjoyed. He also loved to snow ski at Canaan, Timberline, and in Colorado. Adventure was Russ’ middle name. He was a certified scuba diver, solo flew an airplane, and went sky diving at the age of 80. In addition, Russ liked playing golf, tennis, running, and watching WVU sports. He was never afraid of a challenge and would try anything once. Above all, Russ held his time spent with family very close to his heart.
