Lewis County Fire Levy Fails

Lewis County voters have failed to pass a proposed fire levy.

More than 1,500 people voted against the levy and about 790 people voted for it in Saturday’s Special Election.

About 2,300 ballots were cast.

The levy, proposed by the Lewis County Fire Board, would have provided all fire departments in the county by with money for equipment, training and upkeep.

The plan would have generated $2.9 million over five years for fire departments in Jane Lew, Jackson’s Mill, Midway, Pricetown, Weston and Walkersville.
